On my laptop I got a score of 739.  How does that compare in the gaming world?

Thats quite low, but it totally depends on your system and more importantly your graphics card in 3dMark03

My system scores 13500-14000 depending on what I have overclocked.

Yikes!

My specs aren't too bad...

- Dothan Centrino Processor at 1.7GHz wt 2MB L2 cache.

- 768MB Ram.

- ATI Radeon 9600/9700  64MB.

- 60GB HDD.

It's cool, it does what I want it to do.  It also runs Flightsim 9 really well, with most of the settings switched on! Unlike our family piece of rubbish desktop celeron!  It processes tasks really quick.

I have a question for all you IT fundis out there.  I know in theory a centrino laptop at 1.6GHz wt a 1MB L2 cache is meant to be at the same speed as a P4 3.2GHz with a 512KB L2 cache.  But do processors operate quicker with a higher clock frequency and smaller cache or a larger cache and lower frequency?  Cause somehow I got the impression the the first one is quicker.

Not sure whats goin on then. I am not to up together on laptops but a normal AGP ffitting ATI 9600 of 9700 should score way higher than that IMO.

I think it has somethig to do with your laptop throttling itself for power saving or something, cause your setup should get you a couple thousand minimum.

Do you think that it could be due to the graphics drivers being out of date?  Cause I bought the laptop (Packard Bell) in Hong Kong on about the 14th of December last year, and the only driver is the one that came with the laptop software.  Hell there'd better be a bloody good explanation for it, cause paid quite a bit of money for it... Parents money!  I just don't know what else could be wrong.

No it isn't...

It's really wierd cause I downloaded the omega drivers last night and well I didn't like them and the stuffed my my resolutions and I couldn't change any settings.  So I uninstalled them.  Lost the default ones.  Just reactivated the hardware.  And ran 3DMark03 again........ and funny enough I got 2397!!!!  That's really strange.  Do you think that the default drivers were slowing down the graphics card?  Cause I remember seeing a graphics card with all sorts of abilities in the Info Centre for my R7 laptop... and not seeing them in the driver settings.  Like for instance it said the chip had 8x... in the settings it would only go up to 4x...

Ah well.  Any other advice will be much appreciated on my part.  Stuff like speedup utilities orjust tipes on how to speed my machine up, all my specs are at the top of the page.

Thanks,
Greg

Your score sounds right for your card. The 4x agp may be due to the motherboard only being able to run at 4x.  The difference in noticeable performance between 8x and 4x is minimal so don't worry about that.

I get 4076 in 3DMark03.

Greg, I got an 1862 on my laptop.

Specs are:

P4 @ 2.8 ghz
nVidia fx Go5600 w/ 64 Mb
1 gig pc-2100 ddr @ 133 mhz

My video card kills me, but the system does surprisingly well with FS9.  Of course  I say that having never seen it run on a "real" system like some of these guys have...  I consistently have 28-30 fps in FS9, it drops to around 15-17 fps on approach at a busy airport or in areas with a lot of detailed clouds, weather, etc.  I'm happy with it though 'cuz I can sit on my couch and fly around and take it with me on trips...  Yes, I'm addicted  Grin

Remeber 3dMark03 primarily tests the graphics card only.  Your system will have an effect, but hardly any and the test is really all about how good your graphics card is.

The results you guys have typed down show that.

Sorry, I am not trying to steal this thread, just was about to start a new topic about this when I saw it...

I was wondering if anyone could help.  I built my computer at the beginning of September and I just downloaded 3Dmark03 and I am getting scores of 3500 or so, I forgot, it didn't save it.  Specs:

Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2 GHz
Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB
1.0 GB PC2700 RAM
60.0 GB HD w/ 17.7 GB free

Thanks

P.S. sorry again, not trying to steal the thread...Smiley

edit:I also tried pcpitstop and it said I was getting uncached HD speeds of 26MB/s when I should be getting speeds of 50MB/s, is this true and if so, can I fix it?

Thanks

Are you running the tests at deffault settings?

Ensure your Anti-Alias and Anistropic Filtering is turned off too in your graphics card properties.

I am sure my Brothers 9800pro 128mb card scored around about 6000 and he only has an old AMD 3200 Barton CPU on an nForce 2 chipset mobo with 512ddr ram.
