Using Active Camera, is it possible to get a shot as if you had a camera mounted under the plane (in one of the Super Cub demonstration videos, there is a shot from the side of the plane as if from one of the float struts...)

I think you can do that with any of the planes with 3D views. I did it a few times, and I think I went to the VC, and used the Shift+Enter, and Shift+Backspace, to go above and below the plane....I would have to check again to be absolutely sure that is how I did it, but am pretty sure that is how to do it.... Yes, but then you see a plane without any exterior (just the interior is rendered)...

I belive that active camera has the same problem unless you are in the right mode...

It might be possible if you try changing the settings in active camera so that in vc mode it goes to external mode. using shift enter gets you outside the plane but only shows the vc which has been modeled, most modelers leave out the exterior model in order to increase fps and because they dont expect the pilot to move around outside the aircraft in that mode.
Hope that helps.  Grin

Active Camera wingviews are good if the plane comes with a virtual cabin. Use the num pad to move your viewpoint around. Depending on which direction you are facing, 8 moves you forward, 2 backward so if you are in the Virt Cockpit, use 7 or 9 to scan around until you are facing the rear of the plane, then 8 to move in that direction.

This is used in such planes like the PMDG 737 NG, Flight1 ATR, MAAM DC-3, etc that come with a virtual cabin.

If the plane doesnt come with a virt cabin like the Capt Sim 707, see if they have a 2D wing view you can set up as a secondary view from the panel that takes the place of the virtual cockpit.

As for getting views from float pods, only way I have found is to move the camera angle to just under the plane then move the camera closer until you are basically on the pod

My life is like the movie Office Space

I saw a video of such a view...I suspect the author just got the angle right...
