This is my simpit/workstation... a work in progress. I cut an old desk in half lengthwise and built a corner unit out of some scraps. The drawers aren't done yet, but I like it so far... room for my scanner/printer, turntable (working on digitizing my
LP collection), etc.
The speakers are temporary, driven off a Cambridge Soundworks sub. I had to slip some sheet metal between them and the stand to avoid messing up the monitor...
...
A closer view... the bases of the joystick/throttle are mounted to the desk with Dua-Lock,
a very heavy-duty sort of Velcro, as is the keyboard. They're not going anywhere!I built this
furniture for this purpose, but Dua-lock can be gently persuaded to peel off a good-quality finish,
if anyone's thinking of using it temporarily for this purpose, then using the desk for something else later.
My system, which I built last summer (my first computer):
-Cheap but roomy case w/many USB ports and no door (can't remember mfr.)
-Epox KT600 mobo w/Athlon Tbred XP 1.2 CPU (need a faster one!!)
-nVidia GeForce FX5700LE gfx card (256M)with a cheapo but effective slot cooler above it
-Western Digital 40GB HD (love it, but need more storage)
-Audigy SoundBlaster audio card w/5.1 surround
-512 MB Crucial RAM (need more!!!)
-Lite-On 812S CD/DVD+/RW drive
-a very noisy but effective Sanmax HD slot cooler
-Saitek X45 throttle/joystic combo (very nice for the money!)
-NEC 19" CRT monitor (these pictures don't do it justice- I love it!)
-For surround sound, and not driving the downstairs neighbor nuts, I have a pair of Kinyo 5.1 headphones.
For $50, they are amazing!!!
-Logitech trackball (I hate meeses- need too much space)

Thanks. It's not much compared to come of the incredible cockpit mock-ups I've seen, but for a crazy idea, it worked out pretty well...the best part is that the original desktop is a plastic veneer that's very durable (no coffee-mug rings).
