Before using any effects files for my own purposes, I ask the originator for permission, of course the same consideration would be expected for any work that I had created. Having said this, there is an effect that I am interested in incorporating into my design, with the file names as follows:
fx_flankerflame
fx_flankerburner
Have searched all over for the originator of these effects without success. The creator of the file which I had come across these in initially, had borrowed the effects, and does not know where they obtained them from. If anyone recognizes these files and knows who I may get in contact with about them, please let me know. Thanks -
Brian

what i would do in a situation like yours is to use the files anyways and add a disclaimer in your readme file saying:
"this addon includes files from 3rd party designers, it is not my intention to take credit for them in any way"
i don't think that would be wrong, since you're borrowing files that are freeware, just don't borrow from payware - that would be stealing
that's what i would do... *don't kill me....

The author of the effects is Rob Barendregt - do a search on his surname at Avsim and you'll see a list of his work. Any of them contain his email address.

Thanks guys - turns out Rob is not even aware where these effects came from, however I found some real goodies to download, particularly an automatic afterburner control file! Really impressive stuff! Wouldn't have known about it without your help.
