I am going to buy this card but I have a couple of scenarios:

First My PC

Dimension 8200
P4@2GHZ 400FSB
768MB RDRAM@ 400MHZ
Geforce Ti4400
The mobo is AGP 4X

1) Can I buy a 6600GT AGP for this PC (the mobo is not 8x). Will reduce its speed to 4X?

2) Does my PC is prehistoric or it can handle another 1.5 year of games?

3) Did the 6600GT will make and incredible performance boost over the crappy 4400?

4) Will you spend 1100$ on a new PC or buy the card, sacrifice performance, but then buy a super faster PC 1.5 years later.

5) Does the 4X AGP will slow the card too much?

Now with a Ti4400 I have almost everything to the max, with the 6600GT I expect a HUGE boost.

PS Obviously the weather kills my Ti4400

I went from an even crappier card than you.  The radeon 9200 to the 6600GT.  I can't have everything set high although I can get the same results at 1024x768 with 6600GT at the sliders I used to have under 800x600 with the 9200 radeon.  I can tune it and get good results as long as I am parked at a not very busy airport but as soon as I fly and enter into busier areas I end up down in the mid-teens and low 20's anyway. My advice is as keep shif_z turned off and as long as it doesn't look mushy or slow-mo to your human eyes enjoy the sim and don't worry about whatever your frame rates are.  I tell you, I flew and had lots of fun before I discovered shift_z and I was probably having all that fun under very poor frame rates and I couldn't tell the difference til i started pressing shift_z and its ruined my experience ever since.  Instead of long evenings or weekend afternoons of joyful flying my simming has become a hardware chase and tune and I only have but a small performance boost to show for all my stress.  No more shift_z.  I've had enough of it, I want to have fun with it again.

Whats Up

Bro something must happen to your PC. I swear on my grampas grave that I play it at 1600 x1200, all settings pretty maxed, clowds like 30% 3D, AA 2x in card but turned off in the settings, details and airplane almost to the max. And I hit 18 to 23 FPS. Tweaking and lowering settings upper 30's. If I put everything 100% I better puke than play.

But Obviously thats not flying through NY. I like flying in the caribbean since I live in Puerto Rico.

Do me a favor, go to San Juan International Airport at Puerto Rico( Luis Munoz Marin), put everything maxed and tell me what happens. Grin

if your mother board isn't agp 8x I doubt that you'll be able to make that card work on it...I'm sure that card is 8xagp
