I got to wondering about AGP aperature settings and whether or not it could increase performace especially with a lower grade grapics card, so I went surfing only to be more confused than I already was Wink

I have a Geforce FX5200 (128Mb)

Now upon reading for hours on end it seems to be a he says she says situation.
Some recommend having your AGP Aperature setting at half your system RAM, others say half your video card RAM.

And most say that it should be set at 128 MB for best performance.

Mine is currently set at 64 MB which would be half my video card RAM but have read and been told that with 1Gig of system RAM I should set it at 128Mb anymore would be pointless but a gain in performance should be noticable, but if I wanted could go as far as 256Mb.

My question is should I try it at 128Mb or leave well enough alone at 64Mb.
Has anyone ever messed with this setting and what if so happened?

Thanks Gixer that is what I shall do.

Can I expect any big improvement or will it be subtile if any?

Amazing the things I think about while trying to sleep, maybe there is a computer wiz somewhere deep inside me I have yet to discover Grin

I didn't notice any, I tried different amounts.  Was at 512 at one point but lost nothing going to 256.

Read up on what AGP aperture is here: http://www.ocfaq.com/article.php/overclocking/vidcard/43

Mine is set to 512mb (half of my system RAM size) but I did not notice a difference between 128Mb, 256Mb and 512Mb (my VGA has 256Mb of RAM).

&&&&That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they kicked the pants off of my P4 3.4!

128 is reallly all you need.

Most games won't even use it so performence increases are non-existant. The only game thats ever went into my system mem is doom3 set only to ultra high mode. And that soon stopped when i correctly configured the com_hunkmegs cvar.

Well after setting mine to 128Mb I did notice some improvement with my feeble FX 5200, most of all stutters were gone, in PF I set up a quick combat with as many baddies I could and started to fly and to my surprise I actually shot one Wink

In FS9 I have recently started to have scenery loading problems, a split second pause when changeing view and then the scenery catching up, nothing to any major extreme I thought it had to do with me going the route of testing new video drivers but not any more, no pauses at all Wink
Although I will say that the 61:11 drivers are still the best for the 5200 card Smiley

Don't know how much the improvement even though minor was becasue of the aperature setting but there was some.
