Using up all my question cards tonight.  I had set keyframes to animate a centrally-mounted airbrake.similar config to the F-18, and used "l.spoiler" as the keyframe command.  This has the desired effect but, when rolling left, the airbrake pops open as if it was indeed the left spoiler.  Have tried editing the part name as simply "spoiler" but of course there is no such keyframe animation, and no airbrake/spoiler command can be found in the stock animation menu.  Wondering how designers go about adding working speedbrakes (not simply left/right wing spoilers) that actually do slow down the aircraft.

Thanks again - Brian

you need to look into you aircraft.cfg -file. in "aircraft geometry" -section you'll see  something like this:

spoilerons_available=1
aileron_to_spoileron_gain=2.000000
min_ailerons_for_spoilerons=4.000000
min_flaps_for_spoilerons=2.000000

change all the values for the variables listed above to zero. at the moment your model considers your spoiler to also act as a spoileron, after you set the values to zero, the spoiler will not move with your ailerons.
