This morning I found my 5 year old Trustmaster - on his own spot - hanging all tot the left. End of the Predator Pro 3D. Falls from left to right when I blow. Not to the front or the back, strangely - I can still take off and land.

Didn't survive Need for Speed Underground 2, or the kids, or both, maybe.

I guess I need a new one.

What do you use? Do you think it's a good one? Why (not). Not to many functions please - just a joystick (or what dor you call it) with a throttle-function.

My Saitek Evo rocks.  Aside from about a million buttons on one stick, it is relatively cheap, fully adjustable, and easy to use.

If you can find it an M$ Sidewinder is brilliant. I've had mine for donkeys and its outlived all my other sticks Wink

I would not recommend the Logitech wingman force feedback models, never had any luck with them..

the regular non force feedback version works wonders though.. Wink

I would also recommend the sidewinder from MS. In fact, fs2004 was built with it in mind. It has everything plus all the vid tutorials cover how to use it.

If you're interested in fixing your Thrustmaster, it sounds like the spring broke.  I used a spring that one would put on a screen door.  I cut it to length and bent one end for a connection.
 
What do computers and air conditioners have in common?...
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

I like your answer, Skittles.

Now I have a Logitech Attack 3, works ok. but the Trustmaster had a rudderfunction - and the LA 3 not.

11 functions it has - besides the throttlefunction .... I need a memo sticked on mij stick.

cheap stick but didnt even last for 1 year Tongue Angry
well i guess thats what i get 4 payin $19.99

as a suggestion I have a nice Saitek 3d Force Stick ordered (that reminds me- it shuld be here any day now Grin) I got it for $25 on their website (normally $60 but its reconditoned)

But one of the main things is do you want a force feedback stick??

I have never seen (or felt) a forcefeedback joystick - but I'm getting curieus.

What exactly does it do?

it has a little thing inside that vibrates so that you can feel when ever you hit a bump (or turbulence) or even when you lower the landing gear or when the tires hit the runway on landing.  It's pretty cool because it adds another dimension to the sim (touch) but from what I hear some people don't like it... Smiley

       My take on the controller choice - after first using an M$ force feedback I bought a Logitech FF mainly because it had a (IMHO) better throttle actuator.  I liked the force feedback, BUT finally bought a Saitek X-45 2-piece stick and throttle. After a year with it I'm sold. I don't miss the Force Feedback anywhere as much as I like the separate throttle and rudder function. The plethora of buttons were daunting at first, but they are programmable so as time went by I learned to program a lot of functions that previously required me to remember a keyboard sequence. (think flaps, gear, and trim for starters) They are now allocated to stick and throttle buttons and hats, along with more functions as I learn. In short - best hundred bucks I've spent on the flight sim. Don't be put off by buttons - as long as they are programmable. And last but not least - the Logitech was reliable for me during the year I used it.    Cheers!

But like Spifire says: not everyone likes it. Do you need a special program or can any computer do this? Is it 'build in' in FS9?

Force Feedback is built into most first person shooters, sims, and racing games.  FF doesn't come in a special program, but the drivers that you install for the joystick enable it to be used...

Also, its not just the stick shaking.  If youre making a turn into the wind, you wuill feel it because it will be a little harder to move the joystick in that direction.

I think the reason why some people don't like it is just personal preference. Wink

- Lots of engine whine at max swing
- Maxes out at about 95% of the axis, with some kind of resistance at that point...
- Runs quite hot after a few minutes
- Slams around at USB port init when you startup the system
Not that bad overall, but stay clear of the ones with a small baseplate and don't have the scrollwheel as these have their FFB motors restricted
