Hey all,
I will soon be building myself a custom PC, and before I start I figured I should find out what parts i am going to use. I was wondering If any of you had suggestions on what hardware to buy (ex. CPU's, graphics card, sound card, etc. etc.)?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks and Happy Flying! 8)

Well we can help you but to give you a good say on whats good / best you need to give us a price range, but I would say a gig of Corsair XMS RAM, AMD 64/FX Socket 939 CPU, ASUS Motherboard (SLI compatible one if u have the cash), Seagate 160 GB SATA Hard drive, 460 W PSU, you shoud be pretty well off in terms of upgradeability etc. But post your price range and I and others can help you a biit better

Not over 1000, ok you can get a decent system with that....

We will start from the case and go from there....
There are many cases out there for sale and some are simple some are unique and some are cool looking, and some are uhh well normal, I suggest youu visit www.xoxide.com and Antec, and www.newegg.com for a case that you will want. You will need an ATX-Mid Tower or larger with a good Power supply included I would go for at least 420 Watt Power, Your case prolly wont want to pay more than 60 for.

Hard Drive-  Im suggesting SeaGate or Western Digital they are both very good brands and its experience and preference what you buy, I am and will use Western Digital untill another brand gives me a god reason to switch, you will probaby want a 100 Gig EIDE hard drive or Serial-ATA< A bit more expencive. Wouldint wat to exceed 70 dollars for that component.

Memory(RAM)- Get some Corsair XMS Memory (RAM)at least 1 gig of it, Vidit Corsairs web site for details on t but your rule of thumb is you will wnat Low Latencey and PC-3200, you can go with other brads of memory but Corsair has the best reputation fr being the best. Dont Excede 325 for that( that should not be a problem)

CPU -  Go with AMD Athlon 64 Bit, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512KB L2 Cache, Socket 939 64-bit Processor. Socket 939 is a good socket for AMD as it allows the best upgradeability options. That CPU will cost you about 200, and is probably about the best you will find for a CPU price limit of 220. Dot get me wrong that is a great CPU and the mother board that you will get that works fr it will also run FX-53 and FX-55 CPUs< those series are currently 800-1200 dollars so they are not in you or my price range yet.

Mother Board - I Highly recoment ASUS and this would probaby be your best model ASUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU, that will run you 130, our price limit to say under our 1 grand mark is 160, but ASUS just relised an SLI, PCI-E motherboard that will cost 260 and supports 1 or 2 PCI-E SLI compatable Nvidia video cards and s a better board all around but its probably not neccissary unles you want PCI-Express wich has better bandwith then AGP but it wont make a huge difference, so unless you want SLI"insurance" and or PCI-E this board wont be a big help for the prce.

Video cards- Your going to want a 256 meg card,  recoment Nvidia for games like Flight Simulator but this is disputable many people ill say ATI, they are both good. I suggest you go over out 220 dollar mark on this item and go for a 400 dollaar nvidia 6800GT 256 for 400 dollars but for the "best bang for your buck" you can geta 6600GT 256 card for 250-350. Now rember to buy AGP if u get an AGP motherboard.

Now all that adds up to about 1 grand but we forgot Sound(Motherboard has integrated) wich will work for the time being untill you can get som money to buy a sound card, they run from 80-250 bucks.

CD-RW Drve, those are pretty cheap, I recoment Lite-On brand and they will run you from 15- 100 dollars, realativley cheap,

Floppy Drive- Pck one up for 4 bucks easy. SO if you have qustions ask i will be happy to answere.

NOTE: These are guidelines for a computer system for under 1000 dollars, this ca be configured but make shure everything is compatible, the parts mentioned  here are compatible with eachother and the price can be higher or lower then satted above, use these as gudelines and try to do some research on your own two so I am not telling you to buy somethig that you may not want..... Well I hope I helped some  8) Also sorry bout grammatical errors and spelling....
