Well I went out to the Green Bay airport yesterday to take some pictures and I had a great one......except for the darn fence.
I wish I could just go stand out on the taxiway.

That's a nice shot Ben. I assume you had to reduce the size of the image to post it. If you cropped it first, as I often do, it would look much better.
This will give you some idea of what I mean. (You will have to imagine how it would look at the same size as your image.) Only took a couple of ticks in IrfanView. I also lightened it up a bit while I was at it.

Wow thats awsome Doug! A big screw up on my part to reduce the image size before cropping at all. I will have to learn how to use Irfanview better.
Oh well, I will be taking many more trips to the airport!

If you edited the original image it would look even better. I keep all my original images on file & save any edited/reduced ones under different file names. It's possible to get several different photos from one original image by cropping it differently. Pro photographers have been doing this since photography was first invented.
IrfanView is fine for a quick edit to post here but for serious work I would use something like PSP.

i've noticed that the quality goes down rather quickly the more you edit, maybe due to the resize?

You can have it with my compliments. I won't say anything. It's still your pic.

You can do what I did by opening the image in IrfanView & cropping it. To crop an image, drag the mouse across the image to select the area. Adjust it as you wish, then click Edit/Crop Selection. Then click Image/Resize/Resample & type the required size in the Width box, in this case 800. I had to increase the size with this one just to show what can be done. Increasing the size usually affects the quality so it's not a good idea. If you're working with the original image straight from the camera you will be reducing it anyway.
PS. To lighten it up a little all I did was increase the Gamma correction value from Image/Enhance colors.

Don't say I've gone & deleted my own thread.

Ah well, never mind. This happens occasionally for some unknown reason. I could post the pics again but that thread was getting interesting & there's not much point. I've already forgotten half the info you gave me. ???

1. Meteor was at Greenham Common 1981...
2. Il-76 - testbed for An70 at Farnborough 1994...
3. MD-81 with propfan on port side Farnborough 1988...
I can't remember the rest other than someone wanting to know what the Draken was!
