I have recnetly been unable to save pictures from the internet as anything other than a .bmp.  There is no option for .jpg(unless I put it in the filename)and if I try to save a .gif, if I can get it to save as a gif, it will not animate.

Is there some really elementary option I have to turn on or off?  I am using IE.  Thanks.

inorder to get it to animate you need to save it as a 'animated gif', you will need a program like Micromedia Fireworks.

I don't use IE but was trying to duplicate your problem with it and it doesn't matter what type image I try to copy, by right clicking the image and then "save image as" it always copies the image just as it appears on the web.
Animated images the same "right click" , "save image as " and it saves it as a animated GIF.

Now question is do you have a "internet accelerator" ? If so and it is enabled this will most likely be your problem. I use one and have it set so that image quaility isn't good so pages load faster, doing so also makes animations such as the ones here in these forums not animate, all can be changed with a click of a button Wink
I have noticed that even if the image is animating on screen, saving the image with the accelerator on will not save the image as a animation, and in a few cases not save the image at all.

Hi Jaffa. To add to Fret's suggestions. I assume from your question that this is a recent problem. I download plenty of images & sometimes have similar problems myself. I find it's invariably caused by the file extensions used on the webpages. Sometimes they won't be in JPEG format (.jpg or .jpeg) but BMP or no file extension at all. In this case the only option is to download them as BMP & convert them yourself. I've come across images that seem to have no file name at all except Untitled.

If this doesn't explain it maybe you recently installed or changed something that would cause the problem. Try to think of anything you've done since it last worked.

try cleaning your cache/deleting temporary internet files, then refresh whatever page you're on and then right click/save as.
