I've been using '98 since it first came out, (after DOS, and Win '95), and I've got really used to it, and all its inside bits...!

Most of them will Mr Fozzer .......... there's a little known component of Win XP it's called compatability mode.  You right click on the EXE for a program and in the properties there's a little tab for it. Click on the tab and you can run almost every old game in Windows 95 / 98 Mode.

cheers

Well I never..... what a couple to fight for the Fort! 8)
One's nearly as old as the Universe Shocked and the other is a young sprout, just putting down the roots...  (that's a compliment Dan - I'm not much older Smiley ).

Come on Paul, join the world in the fast lane, yep you can do it on your bike, so you can do it - get a PC on Boxing Day - that's when the sales in PC World are on I believe - and then join the fat-fast Connection club. 8) 8)
You don't know what your missing.... honest!

Now, to be on a more serious note.
We've 4 computers in our house.... Shocked
1 x 95 Undecided
1 x 98 Undecided
2 x XP 8) 8)

For some reason we skipped the 2000 version. Roll Eyes
The 2 XPs and 98 are networked and the 98 is in my room  Lips Sealed  Angry   - (the 95 is in my sisters room. Tongue 8) )
Dad has an XP and everyone shaes the other XP.  I can assure you it's the XP's we fight over. They rarely crash and are very reliable.
Today my 98 crashed three or four times, the XP's rarely crash. Despite there bad press they are much more stable and much better for gaming. They aren't any more complicated at all.

I've seen more problems reported with WinXP than any other OS on this forum alone.

Could be the operators, We have 2 PC's both running XP and it is the most stable OS so far, I tried to upgrade the one PC to SP2 and indeed had problems so I restored it to before I downloaded SP2 and it has been fine since.
I have done some research and it seems that when you install SP2 yourself it tends to change various settings which in turn causes the problems I was experiencing, but I have chose to leave well enough alone and not re-attempt to install SP2 on the said system. My newest PC came with SP2 installed and runs just perfectly.

I had tons of problems with Windows ME, it would crash regularly, I still have this system although it is currently retired and awaiting a possible overhaul. I also still own a Win 95 system which is basically retired for good except for when I am feeling nostalgic and feel like playing DOS games, this rarely occurs anymore. I have a WIN 3.1 system that just takes up space and collects dust. I also have another system that was an XP system but the hard drive totally died, so it too is currently awaiting an overhaul.

If anyone plans to keep up with the times it is my opinion that you must keep up with the latest operating systems and hardware, although you can obviously use an older OS for as long as you want I suppose, eventually there is no longer support for those older versions, and as advances in software is being made, you will be unable to effectively run any of the current or future programs on obsolete versions of Windows and inadequate hardware.

I do realize however that not everyone has the means to purchase a new system or upgrade their current one every year or so, and as long as the system you have satisfies your needs and you are not hungry for all the latest bells and whistles, then carry on with your decrepit old doorstops running ancient sloth-like versions of Windows.....uh....well, as long as it works for you then that is what really matters.  Wink

Fozzer, Place your XP disk into your PC with '98 running, (assuming Auto Run is enabled) a little menu will appear, offering you a clean install , or, the option of installing it alongside Win 98 - Result! all those gems will still shine.

All you need is either an empty partitioned space on your HD or, an empty physical HD to install it on.

Remember, '98 MUST stay on drive C:, and Bob will be your proverbial uncle.  Wink

Really mate, its that simple. Grin
