I recently convinced a friend of mine that the best upgrade for his 2.4ghz pc was Windows XP, he was suffering with the dreaded "OMG! Doom3 won't run" problem that affects '98 users, now XP's installed, he's a happy bunny and enjoying considerably better performance from his PC.
Approx 30% improvement in benchmarks, a vast differance in general PC speed and stability.
Not forgetting, as long as you have either more than one drive or a large partitioned drive, you can still keep '98 and all your old games!
Fozzers specs...

With all those fab meals of his Craig I should think so
I think ultimately Fozzer follows the motto "If it ain't broke don't fix it", and its a sensible one...

Of course... I was being too optimistic.
I suppose it might scare him off XP, I should have kept quiet....

I'm with the Foz on that one. In fact, the older I get the more I agree with him.

I suspect that Fozzer wears more sensible underwear than boxers. It can get a tad draughty around your nether regions at this time of year, especially on one of those superbikes he hares around on.

On a more serious note, Win 98 just ain't designed to be pushing electrons efficiently around that new hardware spec. Bit like buying a new car and having a man walk in front with a red flag. You can do it if you want - but why would you want to? ???

You lot sound like the publicity department of M$. I've seen more problems reported with WinXP than any other OS on this forum alone. WinMe does more than enough for me on my antiquated system. If & when I get around to purchasing a new PC* I expect I shall be forced into having WinXP included whether I want it or not. More bleedin' expense to add to the price of the hardware itself. Then, from what I read in the forums I'll need about a Gigabyte of RAM to run it efficiently.
*PS. You will know when this happens as I shall no doubt be constantly pleading for help.

But, once you have it you never look back. So the advantages outweigh by billions any probs.

Well, I've run it efficiently, happy and well on 256.

That is no problem, although you won't be looking at me of course,
are you getting one in the sales then after Xmas?

Doug if you do go to XP just DON'T get the ruddy M$ patches for it, they caused all the trouble!
I've been using XP without trouble for a 2.5 years now, it was only when I installed those wretched patches things went wrong. And they were only made to sort out the security issues M$ screwed up on, so just get a decent firewall and you'll be happier than a pig in poo
