For those of you that can find it please refer to "Flying Magazine" Nov 2004 issue.   In the column "Flying Lessons" by Lane Wallace she relates just such a match up that occured at Osh-kosh this year.  It was the newly re-designed Ford GT 40 versus a CAP 232 aerobatic plane.  Now the 232 had a top speed of 190kts.  The course was the 8000 ft. Osh-kosh runway.  Believe it or not the plane could not catch the GT 40 until the GT 40 driver was forced to slow down for the end of the runway. Incidently, he only needed 4000 out the 8000 ft. for that car to peg 200 mph and it still had more to give.  For details call Ford Motor Company.  Only $140,000 USD.

The BBC have had this sort of match up several times in their series Top Gear. The most memorable being with a Harrier.

they had to send the gt40 against a prop to win, hahah. Sorry but when you brought up car Vs plane i was expecting along the lines of the F-16 Vs Dodge viper, or Eurofighter Vs Ferrari F1.

Top gear, years ago, had a race between a Jaguar car and a Jaguar jet. The car had faster acceleration but was over taken as the jet was just taking off.

I'd much rather have the CAP 232, I could at least have fun in it.

&&&&That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they kicked the pants off of my P4 3.4!

Must've been a F-16, often referred to as 'Viper'.
