Don't have one, have the 9800 Pro 128 MB. It's a decent card even today. I would suggest you update the drivers immediatley, and would strongly suggest using the latest Omega drivers.

Its a 2+ year old card for a start!

As long as you've paid little for it, (there available new for well under £100!) it should be a good buy.

Certainly a better card than mine! (FX5600) as I have little problems with mine, then your considerably faster 9700 should be a real improvement.

If however, your old card was something like a 6800LE (unlikely!  Grin ), then the 9700 is about 3 times SLOWER!  Wink

Old card is a GeForce 3 Ti 200 so I'm hoping for a real improvement. My present quality is not bad as you can see from past screenies but it's just so slow. It's a major negative on FR and eg ground textures just load so slowly. Obviously I'll load the latest drivers as always.

It's a 'refurbished' card from a dealer with a warranty and as you say well under £100. I could hardly believe it - guys were bidding more for same cards that were listed in auctions from private sellers without any warranty than I paid 'buy it now'. Are some people stoopid or what  ???

I'll do a before and after check and post some details so anyone thinking of changing themselves will have some info to compare,

Oh yesssss....

3d 2001 SE Benchmarks

Geforce 3 Ti 200         4332
9700 Pro                    11223

Aquamark Benchmarks (great DirectX9 benchmarking prog)

Geforce 3 Ti 200         10689        10.69 fps
9700 Pro                    36230        36.23 fps

My system is Athlon 2600+ slightly overclocked to run at 2.2 GHz, clock speed 175 MHz

1.25GB DDR RAM (forget the speed , mid-speed, not the  fastest, not the slowest PC2700 I think)

DirectX 9.0 in XP Pro SP2

Epox MB nForce 2 chipset (not that happy with it I might say)

I'm running on a 40GB removable drive which I was configuring especially for FS9 but for some reason it runs with lower FR than the sim on my 'main' 180 GB HD. So I'm still doing everything in effect on the same drive. Such is life.

The performance difference is noticeable. Much smoother with everything maxed. I'm off now to try my Kai Tak approach for which I was getting under 6 fps with the old card, more or less unflyable. The main reason I stopped developing the scenery. If things are better I guess I might get back to it  Wink

BTW I'd overclocked the Geforce 3 a bit - to the point where sparklies were beginning to show and then pulled back a bit.
