Are there server problems tonight or has a lot of bandwidth been taken from the normal file server to facilitate the premium server now? Is it going to be like flightsim.com where connecting is so difficult it almost forces one to pay for premium membership?

Gary - there shouldn't be a problem. There is no plan to restrict access or inconvenience anyone Wink - The only difference will be the actual download speed & that is being slowly phased in.

Can you be specific - file - page - for example?

Thanks  8)

I was attempting to download a 747-200 panel.  But, I also attempted other zips in other parts of the library like Warren Biers new update of his Piper in "props".  Same problem. I use star download and normally it works fine, I'm on dial-up and I need resumablility. Last night though after about 10 seconds or so it would generate a timeout error and not connect.  That's why I thought either the server itself was hung or nides were re-routed to help facilitate the paying members, due to the fact it had only just been announced. Guess I'm paranoid and suspiscious, sorry.  But I understand it could have been line noise  anywhere iin thousands of miles worth of network also.

There is some sort of problem with the library.  Today I tried a couple of the newest in the 2004 props section and got "file not found".  then I got "couldn't log in". Then I dis-abled star download and got " "the page can't be displayed"  Ping the darn server once and you'll see, there's something up with it.

Yeah well (I don't know 'star download') some download managers will have a problem - because they try to make multiple connections & as - even on the very best systems - there are connection limits - & connection limits per user are limited to 2 (hardly surprising!)

I daily test downloads using 56k dailup & have yet to experience a connection problem with either free or paid up membership.

Of course - some may experience them - & this is an ongoing process ....

Have you tried using normal downloading?
Thanks for the input.

Gary - I'm always happy to admit problems when they are there - but I have just tried connecting to both systems & again - instant access to files.

Tried a ping: OK - zero problems on either server (3 machines). Believe me this is a constant monitoring process several times daily - particularly at this early stage.

Yes, as I pointed out in my last post, I dis-abled star download then clicked on the link and I got "page cannot be displayed" message.  I will go back to that page and refresh it and try it again.

See, I wouldn't be concerned except that I have been successfully using star download for over a year now and dap prior to that for a couple of years and had no trouble at all. I switched to star download cause I got tired of the registration messages that dap was kickiing up. Also, it doesn't seem to follow linked download pages as intuitively as star download does. Anyway, I have never run into trouble before. There have in fact been files in my "paused" folder for months on end that I finally go and finish downloading and without a hitch, it works fine.

Gary - I get feedback - & if I was you I would think 'ISP' - because I'm not experiencing this myself or hearing it from anyone else .

Always on the side of the user.  Smiley

Okay, I deleted cookie, file, history. close out IE. Re-opened IE and went back to file library.  I was able to start download through IE.  So, I canceled, re-opened star download and tried with it and got "file not found" .  So, I a, wondering if there's a problem with my downlooad manager. I didn't do anything different with it.  Perhaps it got infected by some sort of un-invited malware or something.  I will un-install it, do a defrag tonight, run spybot s&d and adware 6 and do a Norton scan then I will tr-install my star download and see if it works like it always has. If it doesn't, I am going to take an opinion from the other guys and find out who's using what that's re-sumable. I gotta have resumability because i can't always keep larger downloads going either due to interuptions or due to needing bandwidth/processor resources.

I think it may be that your download manager is trying to connect several times per file d/l - which will result in an error.

Like I said - connections per user are limited to 2 - & some d/l managers will attempt more. The FTP server will allow resumed downloads but obviously not fully compatible with all d/l managers.

Hope this helps  Smiley

I don't think you are following what I'm saying.  I had been SUCCESSFULLY using STAR DOWNLOAD for OVER A YEAR.  I changed NOTHING on the appilication. Now, ever since the Premium server went on-line it will not connect.  WHY?????  Why does something that worked just fine for OVER A YEAR now in the last 5 or 6 days no longer work????

Possibly  because free downloads have switched to an FTP server to prevent bandwith abuse. All part of the ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY changes. Freeware downloads from Simviation has cost me in the region of $400,000 in the past 6 years & this simply has to be addressed - otherwise guess what happens? I go bust & simviation dies. Period Smiley I should have introduced this 2 years ago!

Everyone can still download for free - just not at the loss making level as it was before. If you want bigger bandwidth you just have to pay the real cost. I can't pay anymore.

Like I say - Normal downloading works on the free site (no download managers please!).  Wink

Well pete, my problem is solved.  A fellow simviator recomended Get Right to me and I downloaded it and set it up the way he recommended to me and it works just fine at the normal 4.5 kbps that I had been used to and resumability to.  I hope to upgrade to premium if I can get it past my wife somehow.
