Also don't forget that the Germans (in particular the pilots) had gained a lot of experience during the Spanish civil war.
However one big error would develop from this during the Battle of Britain, most of their fighters didn't have radio so used hand signals to communicate, which was adequate in Spain. And then the High Command saddled them with flying alongside the bombers thus losing them the advantage of speed which is so vital to a fighter....

Several "informed gentlemen" actually believed that the Germans would see a stiff battle from the Polish Cavalry...the Wehrmacht not having trained to receive a cavalry charge after all!

Best description of the phenomenon I heard was by a Canadian Officer in the early part of WWII. He stated that the British General Staff had spent too much time concerned with breeding and not enough time concerned with bleeding.

Not limited by any means to the British...by they did exemplify it so well. Smiley
