Hi all as it's my birthday next week the better half as offered to get me a better graphics card, my question is, is the Sapphire 9800 Atlantis256MB any good? I haven't heard of the "Atlantis" before and wondered is it just a standard ati 9800, or like the "SE" a poor perfomer. many thanks in advance, Chris  Smiley

The ATI 9800, 9800pro and 9800XT are all good cards.  Its only the SE varieties that suck!

Might be worth thinking about the new gen cards though too.  I cant remember the equivilant of the 9800pro though right now.

Hi Gixer
It has to be a second hand card as money is tight (4 kids and Xmas need I say more) £120 max so the new cards are out of reach for a while, I've not heard of the Atlantis before and wondered if it was an other way of selling the "SE"

www.overclockers.co.uk are selling the 9700Pro for under £100 ! http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/9700_to_9800_Series.html but, for my money, I'd got for the Nvidia 6800LE its 128MB rather than 256MB but its performance is certainly a match for the ATI 97/9800 series, and from the discussion at Overclockers forums, it seems to be the card most users would opt for for that sort of budget (alas, approx £150, but worth the extra.....) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800.html

Ultimately, it depends on the rest of your system specs zeberdee, the 6800 series cards seem to perform best with high end (3.0ghz+) cpu's.

Hope this helps.

Paul.

I just noticed your avatar 4Series.  Is that Elite? Looks like it to me.  I had that very one on my BBC B micro!

4Series is right on the price too £120 is way to much second hand!  I use Overclockers site for my PC bits too usually.

6800LE is £150 as said

ATI 9800pro is £140

Both brand new  Grin

The 9800 atlantis is not an se.  Atlantis is a Sapphire brand, and they are known to be very reliable for labelling their cards truthfully.
