If someone was able to reproduce an accurate model/bgl of your house from photographs you provided, would you be interested?  Would you be willing to pay a nominal fee to have a fairly close representation of your house available as an add-on?

Is anyone already providing this service?

Interesting idea.  I think that might actually catch on.  Perhaps you might start a site devoted to doing individual buildings on request; not just houses.

I think that for scenery designers there might also be some interest in a package bundle of commercial buildings that included such stuff as generic type Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Circuit City, Staples, Officemax, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Pizza Hut, and so on.

It would make it easier to make more "photo real" areas surrouinding airports.

I think the issue with a model of your home would be linked to the price.  You have to figure out how much your time is worth.  How long does it take you to produce a finished product of someone's home?  If that answer is that you can do it in an hour's time........ then you have to ask what is your time worth?  If that is $25 an hour...... then the MINIMUM that the product would cost is $25.  But that does not take into consideration any associated costs forthe "business".... such as a portion of your computer hardware and softeware costs, electricity, and so on.

However, my guess is that to pay yourself a reasonable rate....... the price for the "virtual home" would get too high for people to be willng to pay it.  And virtual mortgage rates are going up.   Grin

You can get highly detailed and elaborate aircraft and scenery models in the $25 to 40 range.  You will be "fighting" ther perception about that compared to the simple project that your idea represents.  The developers of those aircraft and such make the money back through volume of sales .... not on a single unit.

Can you imagine the price for one of the PMDG planes if they only sold ONE copy?   Wink

And I don't think that there will be much market for someone wanting a copy of someone ELSE'S house  Wink.

Here is a house I "built" for a fellow Simviation'er:  http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=screen;action=display;num=...

Mostly out of curiousity at the reaction I'd get from those who saw my work, I gave it a try and Saitek seemed to be pleased with the results.  It was fun and I was glad to do it.

Although I don't have the time or inclination to do this as a full time job, it would be fun to build a few houses a week and maybe make a few bucks in the process.  I know the first time I flew over my house in FS9, it was quite a thrill.  I'd like to share that experience with other simmers.

Regarding commercial buildings, would that require any sort of licensing?

I'm sure I would buy it if it were a good portion of the area around my house in a say, 5-mile radius.  I now tons of work goes into that, but I think I would not buy it if it was just my house.

I think its a great idea ottopilot. It would have to be something that you really like to as you wont be making a lot of cash out of it. But I would sure dish out $30 for my house and the surrounding area.

I say go for it as long as it will just be a hobby. I can see how fun it would be to fly over my house in FS9. And maybe fly down the street and see Wal-Mart and Target. Like I said ottopilot, go for it! Grin
