I am working on a new airport for fs2004.  I have some parts of the scenery done in FSSC.  I have the runways and taxiways and navaids and such done in AFCAD.

The problem is that where the runway sits what should be OVER (on top of) some polygons from FSSC that I want running UNDER it ....the FSSC polygons instead cover OVER the AFCAD created runway.  So the runway is obscured.

I am sure there is a simple answer for this... but I can't seem to find it.

Any thoughts?

best,

hi John,

By default runways placed in AFCAD should I think be at layer 24.

Edit your polygon in FSSC and if it says 'No Layering', change it to show layer 8, which is the default for polygons.

This should put the polygons below the runway.

However, this should happen automatically - runways go on top by default.

What is more likely is that you've got a height problem - ie your polygons are being placed higher than your runway

Rollerball,

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately that didn't seem to solve it.... the polys were at the right level to start with.  And I played with the altitudes betwee the two files... and the polys from FSSC continued to stay on top of the runway from AFCAD.

Then in the process... the following happened

SO....... now I have created an AFCAD file for it.  All was working well except for the polyus issue above...... but then I made some change in the AFCAD file (unfortunatley can't remember what exactly) and suddenly it casused the sim to crash to the desktop as the "scenery loading" message just starts.

OK... so I delete that AFCAD file altogether from the fs9 scenery files...and create a totally NEW AFCAD file for the airport in question...with even a slightly different name.  But the SAME thing happens again with the NEW file.

This continues to happen even if I inactivate the FSSC file for this scenery in the scenery setup screen in fs9.

I can go into the sim and fly elsewhere....it is limited to this location.

Any thoughts?

John, zip up and email me your source files and I'll take a look if you don't have any luck finding the problem

Rollerball,

Thanks for the offer.  I might take you up on it.  But I need you to PM me your email address to do that.

All I'd need to send you is the AFCAD file...... which right now consiste of only a single runway, one temporary tower frequency, a single start location, a tower view location, and some node markers and + sign markers.  It is a very small and simple file.

If I install this file in the sim.... it crashes to desktop upon loading.  With or without the other file present.

best,

Roger,

Figured out the "crash to desktop".  I had an actual single node point sitting unattached to anything.  Once I found that .....it worked OK.  I must have somehow added a node point inadvertantly.

I now know that you can't have a node point unattached as you are doing secenry setup  Wink.

But I am still having "issues" with the polygon business.  No matter what I seem to try with assigning layers in FSSC, and in adjusting altitude in both FSSC and AFCAD II......... the polygons from FSSC ALWAYS sit OVER the aprons and runways created in AFCAD.

And I also have the AFCAD bgl sitting as #1 in the scenery additions and the FSSC file back at the level of the add-on scenery..... which is at #34.  So the AFCAD file is getting loaded "over" the FSSC file.

SO I may just have to send this stuff to you for a look see.  I am a total novice at this stuff.

best,

.................john

I've tried to do that many times but gave up. You could try using ground2K4 to lay VTP2 polygons round your airport. This works perfectly with your AFCAD2 + you get a blended style polygon which looks much better. All you do is slew round the area you want to polygonise (?) and hey presto!

...

Thats if Rollerball can't fix it! If he can't get it to work none of us will Smiley
