Hi
i have some trouble whit  wing_area in the aircraft.cfg
i have check some aircraft.cfg in some plane like the curtiss jenny in the new fs2004 sdk  and all wing_area seem to  not be   exact  ???

here my question: if i have a wing of 47.89 feet and a wing cord of 8.10 feet,
normaly im suposed to have a wing_area of
(8.10 X 47.89 = 387.98 ft ^2)

if i have a byplane (whit 2 wing) normaly im suposed to have a wing_area of

775.96 ft^2        (387.98 X 2)   ?

or

387.98 ft^2  Sad

i have checked some plane in fs2004 and none seem to have a good wing_area Sad?

Woody!  How's it hangin?  I saw your biplane on another site just today, and I'm gonna get it tomorrow!  Well done . . .

Anyway.  The wing area.  Your forgetting: the wing isn't just a squared off area.  Most of the time, it tapers towards the ends, which will take off some of the area.

So I guess your gonna have to take a shot in the dark and guesstimate the correct number.  It'll be less than the total, but more than 3/4, at least for most of the aircraft out there.

And yes, for a biplane the total wing area will double.

Same thing happens with big jets. With some planes e.g. the A300 airbus, just putting the Airbus spec numbers (including those for wing span, wing area and root chord) into the .cfg file means that the plane just won't lift off the ground on takeoff. If you increase the cruise_lift_scalar figure in the [flight_tuning] section of the .cfg file from 1.0 (its default) then this will help. With the A300, I had to increase it to around 1.5 to get proper rotation at around 160-170 kts.

Good luck!

Hey Woody, can't you get in some licensing trouble for using the theme song from Voyager?
