After installing Splinter cell on my computer, I try to start the game and I get this.

"The ordinal 11 could not be located in the dynamic link library DSOOUND.dll"

And then it crashes

what does the mean? How do I fix it?

I am quit desperate to play this game, thank you for any help.

I'd hazzard a guess, a re-install of Direct X 9c will sort you out. I'd say Splinter Cell has overwritten some newer Direct X files with older ones hence the corruption.

I've had similar issues before with other titles and thats the fix that works for me. I don't have Splinter Cell, thus its all guesswork.....

Hope this helps!
