Problem loading a ship (Read 423 times)

Need some more help.  I dl'd some missions that use a US ship, the SHA_Cowpens_CVL-25.  The ship was dl'd with the missions and I put it into the Ships folder, updated the descrip.dat file with the name SHA_Cowpens_CVL-25, updated the mdlnames.txt file with "SHA_Cowpens_CVL-25"=USS Cowpens CVL-25, and put the jpg in the INFO folder.  These were the install instructions, but this ship will not load (error message saying it's not in the library).  Need help figuring out what to fix.  If I change the name of this ship in the missions to another CVL, everything works fine.  By the way, MB gives me the same error when I open the missions even though the ship appears in the list of available ships.

This rings a bell. Think I fixed it for someone before but  I can't remember what it was all about now. If you tell me exactly where to download the files maybe I can check it out for you. I need the description & page number (or a link to the page) the package is posted on. My limit is 10 Mb nowadays so hope it's not a huge file.

I thought it might be that one so I checked it out anyway. It has an auto-installer which I redirected to a Temp folder so I could check it out & install it manually. I copy/pasted the mdlnames.txt & descrip.dat entries direct from Readme.doc. I've only tried mission #1 so far but everything works as advertised, except for a missing scenery object. I don't what that's all about but the ships are all fine.

All seems to be configured correctly so I don't know why you should be having problems with USS Cowpens. I can only suggest there's a mistake in one of your text entries or you have too many aircraft installed. Exceeding the aircraft limit can sometimes cause all sorts of unexplained errors. I don't know if there's a similar limit on ships.

Very frustrating.  I installed the missions, ac, and ships all over again in a second copy of CFS2 and got the same result of load error on the Cowpens.  I have less than 82 ships in one copy of CFS2 and less than 60 in the other.  I did the same as you, auto installed into a Temp folder than copy/pasted into the CFS2 folders.  If I change the missions to use a different CVL the missions work and I got the same scenery error (can't find runway1a_dirt_sq.jpg) once.  I give up and I'll just use a different CVL.

Just trawling thru old posts and noticed this problem I also suffered ,I  solved it when I discovered that ships require folders for panels and sound even tho they're empty and not used.Check it out, if your ship is reported not found in the library, has it got the files for panel and sound ? The model names.txt and description lists are not neccersary they just more conveniance building missions.
