Me and another guy from here got into a bit of a polite argument  on MSN just now. Do you have to use the autopilot approach hold to qualify for doing an ILS landing? I say not, he does....

No you don't have to use the autopilot, unless performing Cat III landings, simply put these are the approaches with no DH or a DH below 100ft.
Two or more autopilots are required for ILS CAT III landings

Instrument landing system, it is a system in your plane that allows you to land in bad weather using instruments. This is where technology and flight sim is making things to complicated for the future pilot. I mean no disrespect here but i think you need to re-read what each of these things do. Nexus pointed out the only time an autopilot IS needed, but even then pilots are trained in a 0/0 situation without it. I think your getting automatic landing and ILS mixed up in this case.
