Does anyone know if and when there will be a cfs4? I know there were rumors for a christmas 2004 release but, that doesnt appear to be happening now. Then I've herd that Micro$oft has broken up the cfs programer team?
Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

CFS has died early this year.
There'll be no new CFS in the forseeable future.

If you like CFS3, you may want to try Il-2 Forgotten Battles. It's like the CFS series except it takes place on the Eastern Front.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.

I think the only reason the CFS series was cancelled was because of the new format. If MS had kept the same format as the FS and CFS2 Sims, then CFS3 would have sold just as many copies as CFS2 and earlier sims. I don't know why they don't just carry on with the CFS series and revert back to the format used in FS and CFS2.

Definitely not true.
They are on an entirely different track over at M$.
There's basically everything on the cutting floor inclusive the civil FS. It's that simple, they are re-defining their bussiness goals and computer games don't play a role anymore.

Why? I mean, surely computer games, next to software, hold the biggest portion of the computer market with regards to home/end users ???

It's not to say it's not coming, but don't hold your breath.
I think it'll definitely come. After Microsoft figures out its' strategy on how they want to go about doing the CFS series, they'll pick it back up where they left off.
Like I said, that'll be awhile. I imagine games are slightly less important than Windows.
I'd say with confidence, there's nothing in the works now, or in the near future.

I wouldn't say there is no gaming in the MS future. PC Games are pretty much dying out anyway in favor of console gaming. With the success of X-Box, MS will be making games for some time to come; just not the ones we want.

The way I look at it, providing designers keep uploading add-ons for FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, CFS 1, CFS 2 and CFS 3, I don't see too much of a problem.
I'm perfectly happy all with my existing FS, and CFS programs as they are...

I agree with Fozzer. There are a few other games/simulators on the pipeline, just not necessarily from MS.
CFS3 was the only one I was not terribly fond of, where CFS2 I like a lot more.

I can't believe that CFS broke up!
Will MS continue FS?
It seemed like there were so many possibilities for FS!
How could they do this to us?
Has MS finally initiated their plan to take over the world along with Opra Winfrey, and Starbucks??

In all regards, CFS3 blew.
Who can run a war with one squadron?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I think MS is a try it one get it right company, they're not really into failing...
who is?
but my point is that after that flop they've given up...
if they recieve considerable interest they may do another but for the time being CFS1 and maaaaaaybe 2 remain...

Is there any news of a new FS version beeing planned to replace FS2004, or has that been put to one side like cfs4 at present.
I've frequently thought that a good replacement for FS2004 would be a CFS2-FS2004 combined package in one Sim, where you get great civil flight simulation and graphics - but you can also have the option of using your F-16 or Eurofighters' missiles and bombs to blow up targets if you so choose. Working military bases could be included alongside the civil ones.
That way they would have all their focus on one Sim package and not scattered around multiple different sims. It would probly be cheaper to make and attract a huge audience of virtual pilots from both ends of the FS/CFS spectrum!
There are so many great FS Military jets out there relegated to farting-about like an overpowered Cesna, instead of zooming up a valley at 300ft to practice ordenance drops. It would incorporate a whole new skill level for pilots too!
Its what i'd do if i were Microsoft... What does everyone else think?

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I've said this before and I'll say it again. FS is a civilian flgiht simulator. The purpose is not to kill or crash or anything else. It is for enjoying the thrill of flying and for having the oppurtunity to fly a plane you wouldn't get to in real life. Making it anything else would diminish it. Whatever they do to CFS, changing FS in the way you describe would destroy it.

The only problem with that is that some earlier Military Bases have since become Civil Airports

The correct airports for the correct period would be the smallest problem. Actually that can allready be done since FS scenery supports dates, hence the Berlin Wall.
Problem would be performance, FS couldn't handle all the objects required for a decend combat sim, in particular since the bgl code is comparably pretty darn old and slow.
I think CFS3 was a move into the right direction, just half-hearted finished.
