The stupid idiot's guide to making a plane with gmax is probably the best all-around "cradle to grave" tutorial.

This tutorial is hosted here in Simviation - check the Design pages.

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/downloads.asp

then you need to download the gmax SDKs and specifically the makemdl sdk/ docs.

That's the guiding document for the tags needed, etc.

Also, the aircraft container SDK is necessary.

As you'll see, the modelling is easy - it's getting the durn thing to show up in FS and fly correctly that's the headache!

On tags - left_aileron doesn't work;  l_aileron does .. and etc., ad nauseam..

got them, and installed them, but its such a weird layout that  really couldnt be bother to read them. lol. ill try though. i didnt know i need the aircraft contrainer though thanks Smiley .also i opened some of the .gmax planes but my graphics card couldnt handle the polys so it was jumping around like crazy as i rotated the view port. wire frame didnt seem to help either  Cry I also found a tag tool a few minutes ago that i can use that names all the aircraft parts, although i dont know what they are. lol. Ok. im feeling in a happy mood some hopefully ill actually be able to read them. lol.

A really handy little tool (created by our own FSEdge) is TagTool, which is a gmax script that contains the names of all the FS tags you could use.  Just click on the name and the selected part will be named that.

Get it here: http://www.fsalpha.com/home.shtml

Check out the FSDS site for animation information.  URL in my signature.
