I'll keep it short and sweet.
I have onboard LAN capability with my Asus K8V. I installed a D-Link Ethernet PCI card in the Dell, and connected a cable between the two. Ran the XP networking wizards, no go.
Still messing with it, but I feel I'm missing something.

Scorpion,
Suggestion:
Search the web for a basic networking primer.... or get a simple book from the library.
You have a couple of tasks. One is to create a LAN "workgroup". The next is to set up internet connection sharing.
First
you have to have the workgroup set up correctly.
Are the network cards BOTH active? Maybe there is a setup option in your BIOS settings that has to be done or a jumper that has to be changed to get the integrated Ethernet card active?
If you go to "Network Conncetions" can you see the other computer or at least the workgroup with only ONE machine shown in it?
Get back to me and I'll try to help.
best,

If you have used the wizard that usually sets em up pretty good. Maybe you got a firewall problem.
I just installed a new firewall setup on my PC and am strugglin to get access to the other pc on the network here. I know I got all the IP's right etc and that info gets through as I can ping the other PC but it cant ping me so I know that my PC firewall is being dumb, even though I have stated that the other PC's IP is safe and to allow it access ???
Dam I hate networks.

Lol, yup XP makes it so only one folder is shared as standard. You can share other folders but if you got it workin just go with what you got.

Sorry if this is obvious and if your already doing this then I'll get my coat. But if you don't have a hub/router in between the 2 pc's then you will need a crossover cable, not a standard network cable

I've found the best way to get 2 pc's to talk directly, is to assign each a local I.P. say 192.168.0.1 & 192.168.0.2 works for me anyway, read your firewall's help guide, the firewall will cause grief until you disable it or configure it correctly.
