Help - I am a novice at this!

I have downloaded the misson Dragon and Dragon 2 by Steve Baugh as I wanted to fly hellcats and land on aircraft carriers etc!

I have not only followed Dougs advice on the tutorial all seemed to be going well!

Firstly I had only downloaded Dragon 2 and found I needed 2 planes from the first version and downloaded this campaigns and all as I thought the more the merrier!!  However...

When you start the mission before you have even realised the cockpit is up in front of you and your dead and it moves on to the next mission.  At first I thought it was me doing something stupid so I continued, however it appears to be doing this on every mission.

Anybody got any ideas, solutions etc.  This is my first attempt as only bought the game a few weeks ago and noticed you could add to your campaigns etc online and this is not going too well!!!!

Thanks

Hi Lange. I remember checking out these campaigns some time ago. The problem is that I forget what the  problem was & how I fixed it. Roll Eyes

If you're on WinXP it's quite possible that one or more of any 3rd party aircraft used in the missions need patching with the MDL Repair Utility* to work properly. The best way to check this would be to try them in Free Flight.

You could also try a different campaign to see if that works OK. Campaigns featuring 3rd party aircraft & scenery are probably the most difficult addons to install to CFS.

By 3rd party aircraft I mean addons. Anything that is not included with the sim. Many missions & campaigns posted here & on similar sites require separate downloads of aircraft & scenery to work properly.

The MDL Repair Utility is for Win2000 & XP only. It would work for CFS1 but as you're using WinMe you don't need it. The bug I mentioned does not affect aircraft in WinMe.

As I mentioned earlier, missions & campaigns are probably the most difficult addons to install properly. If you're new at this it might be an idea to install a few more aircraft & try some scenery before being too ambitious. Wink

Thank You so very very much!!!  It is nice to find a forum aimed to help that actually helps!!  Thanks for decoding the jargon and making your instructions make sense!

Do you know any of the fs or cfs games that come with an aircraft carrier mission/campaign and possibly a hellcat?  That might be a way round it!!!

Thanks once again

Glad to be of help. You might like to try the Korean War campaigns I did with Mike Eustace. Valley Forge has carriers (but no Hellcats) & all necessary files are included in 2 separate downloads. It should work straight "out of the box". http://www.simviation.com/cfs1missions7.htm

Please read the simple install instructions carefully & tell me how you get on with it.

CFS2 might suit you better. It's based on the Pacific Theatre & features the Hellcat & carriers in the default missions/campaigns.
