You know, I gotta pipe up here. I like looking at pics, and I love airplanes, but enough of the linking to Airliners. If I wanted to look through Airliners.net, I would go there and browse. I come here to see what photos the members of SimV have to offer. This is not Airliners branch office...

I agree. I do like to see a really cool pic from airliners.net occassionally-but I think that too many are being posted. I really lilke to see the photos that the SimV members take.

perhaps we could post them all in one thread, here in the photos forum?
i know what you guys mean, with this, this forum gets a bit messed up with all the new topics popping up, giving us just one link. on the other hand, when someone found a nice photo in the Anet database, i also want to see it...because sometimes they really can be amazing. therefore i suggest just to put it all in one topic...maybe a moderator can give his opinion about this, but i think if you are going to forbid people posting links to Anet, you also have to say no to alot of other things.

I agree!
One day shortly after posting some pics I was bumped all the way to the bottom of page 2
Someone PM'ed me to see why I hadn't posted the photos and I had told them I did, just to find them all the way back too page 2, and who goes to page 2?
But I always thought that this should be for SimV member photos, and find it discouraging to have a link show up not to mention most post the link for the Supersized photo which takes me too long to download and see so I don't bother.
I too if wanting to see Airliners photos will go to there site, I have it bookmarked so no assistance in finding it needed!

I think its the new method for boosting post numbers Kevin. Agreed its getting a bit much. The only A-Net links I've posted were of shots I'd had published.
I mean its not like we don't know what certain aircraft look like

when it comes to anet pics, i will only post those i really think are worth while. Or my own for some cheap hits
But the other problem comes from the fact that there are only 3 or 4 regulars who post photos on a consistent basis, and a few of us who post every now and again.

Any time I find a nice picture over there, I actually copy, paste and upload to here. One thing I can't stand is clicking on a post and then just seeing a url!
Kevin has brought up a real good point. It does seem as of recently this has been happening alto, and if I want to look at Airliners.net shots, I have them bookmarked too. Most of the shots linked I have seen already any way. Don't most of us really just look at what was loaded within the last 24 hours anyway??
We have tossed this over to the new "Admin Forum" and your mods have been up all night burning the midnight oil trying to come to a conclusion..........yeah right!
Seriously, we are discussing it.
Thanks Kevin for bringing this up!

How's about a Forum specifically for Anet links ?
Just one of a few possible solutions

Carl (+ all),
Hummmmmm. Why do we "need" A-Net links in this regard? A-Net is already a net resource that is very valuable, for sure. But it is not like it is not
already
accessible to anyone who ALSO has access to SimV.
I could see a link or a picture re-posting in a forum thread (assuming it is within copyright "fair use") if it related to a specific detailed discussion of something
about
details of that picture.... like maybe the exact placement or type of instrument on a control panel or a detail about recreating a new paint job for a plane, or something like that.
But just a picture for a nice picture's sake seems supurflous and a waste of both general intenet bandwidth and Pete's server space ...... when it is already easily available elsewhere.
Just my $0.02 worth on the subject.
best,

It's been something I've been noticing for some time & have though about contacting people who just seem to post links ...
At the end of the day this is meant to be a forum where folk post their OWN shots - not others ...
So - get clicking or just ... watch ...
& really that's it.....
Think Global. It's the world we live in.

Don't take it personal. You are not the only one doing it, so these comments are not directed at you only. SimV is a very relaxed place and every opinion is pretty much enjoyed and respected here. The intention is not to cause hard feelings...
