I just picked up DOOM 3 yesterday and no forum friendly words can describe how frightening this game really is!

You play the role of a marine who is shipped to mars as a replacement on a scientific and geological facility where not much happens. But ever since a mad scientist obsessed with the paranormal has begun his own secret expiraments spooky things have been happening.

The intro movie and first level do little to explain the story line but hell is quick to break loose in level one... literally. This game is filled with dark corners, flickering lights, and spooky noises. The levels are similar to the levels found in aliens versus predator only much more detailed and interactive. The mag light style flash light is critical to exploring each dark level, and i am yet to find a weapon with a light attached to it so switching back and forth between your light and your weapon are a must. The beam the flash light generates is very realistic, and looks much like the real beam of a flash light. Therefore shadows appear to move and when you double take there is nothing there. This game IS as scary as it claims at least in my opinion... if i had a dollar for every time i exclaimed "OH SH*T!!" during play i could go buy another copy or maybe even two copies!

The visuals on this game are stunning even on medium settings. and the game runs great on my machine. The general requirments can be taxing on even high end machines however because the detail is so high. Minimum system requirments are as follows:

100% DirectX 9 compatible 64MB Video Card (Latest Drivers)
Windows 2000 or XP
Pentium 1.5 GHz processor
384 MB ram
8X CD ROM
2.2 Gig of hard space
100% DirectX 9 compatible 16 bit sound card

My system:

Radeon 9800
Windows XP
Pentium 4   2.8 GHz
1 Gig Ram
120 Gig Hard drive
5.1 Dolby surround

If you want the crap scared out of you or just love a good SciFi first person shooter... Doom 3 will satisfy either need.

Doom 3 got a bad review in the paper. It was said to have not enough action and next to no story. Basically what the reviewer had said was it was full of eye candy and not much else.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. "Demonstration of graphical capability on modern systems with shock effect." (Quote by me,posted on another forum)

I have it as well, but the motivation to continue playing is quite low. I've played half an hour and that's enough, because the game does what it can do best, namely scaring the goddamned sh*t out of you!

Btw: I like the communications between the security guys. And the noises behind the walls...

(I preffered playing Deus Ex 2 throug and I cans say: This game really rocks. I've played it for about eight hours without any break.)

I tried Deus X, and I cannot find why people find that game so awesome. Just to piss you off...  Roll Eyes Doom 3 looks awesome, so bleh. And don't believe critics. Like movie critics, they get paid to say games suck, they said Mr. Deed sucked, and look who was wrong.  Grin

Doom 3 was made for the original game fans, back there we just had to find 3 keys for each level,  find the way out of the maze and shoot everything that gets in your way, not much of a story line but:

I LOVED IT

and I hope it is still like that.

I dont live in the US so Im still waiting for the game Sad

PS:If you like storyes dont buy doom 3 get a good book instead Wink

good point ... much of the original game play style remains... just dont dare run from room to room thinking your going to blast every moving thing. Like i said not a great story line but doom is a first person shooter... kill demons and escape hell thats the story. But it is the scariest and best looking game i have seen yet.

Because there are different ways to solve a task. And there are four different ending sequences. Wink
Have I already spoken about the atmosphere?

Just thought I'd report Doom 3 runs well on my machine (Specs below) so its nice to know you don't need a 9800 pro or 1GB of RAM to get the best from it.

Excellent game, only 4 players on-line is a bit pants, scary yes, graphics - awesome! storyline.... Hmmm..... not too convinced about that!

My tip, when you start the game, kill everybody you meet, - it seems to cut down the initial number of Zombies that appear once whatever happens, happens!  Wink - a good tactic, unless somebody can point me in the direction of anything better than a pistol!  Roll Eyes

Great game, over hyped as ever, not as good as I was expecting, but, whatever is?

Paul.
