If not, and the shop I bought this card at doesn't have any answers tomorrow, it's going back and I am writing off ati forever and buying a comparable nvidia.  I've had bad exeriences with ati beofre like 3 different 64ddr radeon cards frying on me.  Never had a problem though with either of the nvidia cards I've owned nor have out of date drivers ever adversely hanpered anything i've run using them.  At this point, ati $ucks in my book.

Just for some persepective here..... I had the exact opposite experience with two Nvidea cards.  Nothing but problems after problems with two brand new 256 M  NVidea cards... and the tech support folks being NO help at all.... full of excuses ...... and then finally one guy getting frustrated and telling me there was a design problem with that particular card at that point.

That's how I ended up with first an ATI 9600 Pro...and then a 9800XT (the 9600 wasn't cutting ti with fs2004).

Happy as a clam with the 9800XT.  But I need to upgrade the main computer again to get the results I want.... but that is another story.  Wink

Fs2004 is certainly a bear.

best,

You're asking your 9600SE too much. It can't handle FS2004, especially if settings are maxed out.

My first VC was a FX5200 128mb. What a disappointment. Then tried a Powercolor 9200 256 mb. Same answer. Began going over the overclocking sites to learn what was out there.

Buy a 9800PRO 128mb. Flash the BIOS to an XT. You'll be happy with the results. If you have decent cooling,  over-clock it pass XT stock settings. Then you'll be really happy. That's what I did.

My third error? Buying the 128mb instead of the 256mb...

and be carfeul there are also 9800pros which work at different bandwidth speeds.  There are 128bit and 256bit.  Make sure you get a 256bit one.  The best option would be the 256ddr ram / 256bit one.

erm, arn't you getting your bits & RAM's confused a bit here eh?

An ati 9600 will happily handle FS9 - Hell if my FX5600 can then the considerably quicker ATi can!

Via Chipsets are a damn cheap alternative to Intel's chipset , you will find the same with SIS Chipsets. - I have an Asus P4S800D Mobo, it outperforms its Intel equivalent yet cost a third of the price.  Wink

Intel Motherboards use some Via chips anyway!  Tongue

A little knowledge can waste a lot of money!

Nope not gettin mixed up at all, maybe wording it a bit funny  Wink.  There are 128bit cards out there and 256bit cards.  Here is a 128ddr / 128bit card :

http://secure.newegg.com/app/CustratingReview.asp?DEPA=0&item=14-102-369

It wont work as efficiently as a 256bit card, i.e. 128ddr / 256bit.  Most of todays 9800pros are 256bit luckily I am just warning as if you see a cheaper 9800pro it may be as its only 128bit as opposed to 256bit.
