What exactly is more influential on performance?  I'm really confused about all this. Tongue

I am not sure which is more influential, though there are three components in your Pc : CPU, GFX, Ram. If you skimp on any of these then there will be a bottleneck.

So at the moment my G/card is my bottleneck as my CPU isnt that bad and I have good quality / amount of ram.  When my new g/card arrives I expect my CPU will then be the bottleneck in my system.  Unless you have endless amounts of cash you will never stay at the top.  Best advice is always buy the best that you can afford!

Nothing is bottle necking in that system.  If you upgrade 1 part of it the rest will bottle neck.  I would advise a full system upgrade if you are looking for more performance.  It took me ages to save up for my rig but it was worth it.

My system:Intel Q6600@3.6GHz, Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2-6400 (4-4-4-12-1T) , Sapphire 7850 OC 2BG 920/5000, X-Fi Fatality, Corsair AX 750, 7 Pro x64

Scorpion,

Any gaming system is ultimately limited by its graphics card. So, that's the one thing to aim high for. The graphics card will only be limited by a severely inadequate computer, like Dan's.

Dan, your system is perfectly balanced, sell it as such, and get a new one. In fact, your hesitation is the bottleneck.  8)

Funny thing that.... Roll Eyes...!
Look at my specs below first... Wink...!
Now...
Notice that I have an AMD XP 2600+ MMX Processor fitted.
Now, every now and again, my system boots up, (with great difficulty), to either a 1275+ or a 1850+ processor, (because of a correct processor recocnition problem).
Surprisingly, the lower processor speeds have little effect on my Frame Rates, the most important thing seems to be the quality of my graphics card and the amount of memory fitted... 8)...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

Paul....I just wish my system would boot-up to my correct processor.... Cry....!
LOL...!

Fozzer,

You might find  a BIOS upgrade will fix that.

Maybe something else though, like a ram stick that doesnt always configure to the right timings, so bios drops the speed back.

I bet your systems Front Side Bus Speed is altered when that happens.

Your CPU has a normal clock speed of 2.13ghz, so 1.850ghz isnt far off that, hence the small performance difference..... but at 1.275ghz, I reckon it would run a fair bit slower.

The BIOS's I've seen identify an AMD XP+ CPU correctly if the mainboard's BIOS is correctly configured. If you then up the CPU multiplier ratio, it will incorrectly identify it as , say, an XP2700+ ..... but overdo it or goof other settings and it will just state the SPEED of the CPU as it boots.
