My Computer reboot it self sometime after long hour of flight or when i quit the sim.

Anyone know why?

I was flying to Charle de gaule from Dorval and half way over the sea it rebooted it self... i was doing it in real time. (i had some time to spare.) over night flight (real local time, real wather) , I was to arrive at destination at 5 am. for the sun rise(using GPS).  I was so exited and then i was so pissed....

I love that sim... but if it crash on long flight....

please help.
ps I am a noob.... make it simple...

Welcome to the Microsoft Zone, its sort of like the Bermuda Triangle but bigger!
Sometimes this happens for no reason whatsoever. Even my machine has done it occassionally. Best bet is to retry the flight and see if it happens in the same place at the same time Wink

Grin Microsoft Zone I liked that one ozzy verry well said.and stay outa that Bermuda Triangle.the first thing i would check is system temp and make shure its not over heating first.some times your cooling fans can get cloged with dust and leads to shut downs and even reboots the system.along with  many other reasons.but this is one i would check out first.then check for updates for opperating system and video card drivers, direct x ect.if you will list more about your system me or someone eles could go in more depth towards the problem.with out knowing more i am just haveing to guess at it.

If you search for and install Autosave you need never worry about this as it saves your flight at it's current point in your 'Select Flight' menu every 5 minutes.

I'm sure it must have a tiny effect on FR as it's running in the background all the time, but I can't believe anyone is doing long flights without it...... ???

Well there ya go - proves my point - you have to be mad  8)

Seriously, it's a great add on. Let's face it, there are so many unexplained reasons why your system crashes it's so useful to be able to just pick up where you left off.

Now I know that very few of us ever mess up an approach after spending 2 or 3 hours flying from Zanzibar to Wogga Wogga but in the unlikely event that you do  Smiley , after swearing, kicking the cat, blaming the wife for putting you off and having another beer it's at least reasonably satisfying just to be able to pick up again 10 miles out and do it again - properly this time.

But not only that - do you use Fraps to make videos? You need Autosave.

Do you want to spread a long flight over several sessions and not want to fill your saved flights folder up with flights you'll never need again? You need Autosave (it overwrites last week's saved flights with this week's automatically).

And so on.

Yeah you've guessed - I would recommend it to all serious (and ahem discerning) simmers  Wink

Somewhere in FS9 there is a way of saving your flights automatically. Mine saves them about every minute. somewhere one day the programme asked me if I wanted to save the flights automatically, and I ticked the "yes "box. ever since then, it saves the flight every minute or so.

Something very similar happend to me when i use afcad2,after long hour of flight the prgm restart it self, when i add an ils or when i change the hold shot on runways,if you're are using afcad you should took off all the add-on or modifications made by af2 and try to see it fix your problem

EZ_KAL:  What is your method of doing this and can it harm any of the other electronic parts in the computer?  I think mine could use a good cleaning.

Corbin just put on a pair of rubber gloves to keep static away from the mother board and get a can of air at any electronics store or wallmart.unplug the computer and try not to touch any thing.fairly simple.every one should do this offten.or you can pay an expert a small fee to do it.but i do mine and my wifes offten.you might be surprised what you might find cloging those fans.

Sheeeeeesh.... some people just will never learn Shocked

Read this.....

AutoSave: Automatic flight saving for FS98, FS2000, FS2002 & FS2004
====================================================================

Version 1.491, 15th September 2003
----------------------------------

Place AutoSave.dll in your FS98/FS2000/FS2002/FS2004 Modules folder.
It will save flights ("STN" files in FS98, "FLT" plus "WX" files
for the others) at regular intervals, so you can retry that crashed
landing or quickly recover from other problems.

By default AutoSave saves a flight every 60 seconds, and keeps the
last 10 files. These files are placed in the Pilots folder for FS98
and FS2000, in the Flight\Myflts folder for FS2002, and in the
standard user data folder selected by FS for FS2004.

Then get it here......

http://www.schiratti.com/files/dowson/AutoSave.zip

.......Please.

Hey, I just checked my modules folder, and guess what? I've got autosave.dll in there already. I must have installed it on one of those long night time sessions, and forgot that I'd done it. Now that's why my sim autosaves flights for me. A top little programme.
