Dear experts,
Can anyone help with this.
AMD athlon XP1800+ (1.4, 1.5ghz speed?)
512 ram
80gbHD
WIN 98 & DirectX 9

I am trying an ATI Radeon 9600 pro, 256mb ddr.

Even at low to medium settings in all areas of FS9,
fairly frequently the PC locks up & have to restart.

Never happened before with the old SYS 8mb Gr.Card.

Besides dialed in the net and in FS9, only AVG antivirus is running at any time. and the PC temps show at:-  box 32 & CPU 44 F.

Would another type Card, similar price be better? (£100)

Any ideas will be apreciated, before I return the new & carry on with the old Gr.Card.

Regards,            nick     nochus@waitrose.com

PS What is D/I below, is it relevant to my problem:-
"....Go to d/l section of this site - into Search - Type in Tony Gould - hit enter..... and you will get a list of default a/c Tex' enhancers which will give you bright happy tex's for yr defaults.
If card and sys are reasonably high move tex slider bottom right of display settings page over to high or max....."

Is your "p.s." the error your gettting when FS9 crashes???
if so seems to be adware???

I'm not the best expert on this but my opinion would be to reinstall FS9,make sure you have the most up to date video drivers,(and sound card drivers, sound and video work together!) and turn off all running programs and applications.
Clean  out all junk on your HD (using disk cleanup or similar software) Defrag the HD.
Try running FS9 with your anti virus off and disconnect from the internet. see what happens.

Just a couple of tips, hope they help if not someone will be along with something better.
Good Luck

First a question .......... Have you disabled/uninstalled the old drivers?

If you havent then do so.

Control panel/system/hardware management..... look for conflicts.. if theres an ! over anything then check what it is ... probably the old drivers ... disable them in all profiles... restart and bobs ya aunt.

If that aint the case check for virus/worm/spyware activity....

cheers

You should download AdAware...it's free and it checks for spyware.
