Pete, I wanted to suggest something that I think would be a great idea.

I think we should move the Payware Forum from the dark depths of the forum page, up a few notches and place it right above the “Add-ons Wanted” Forum.

I recently started purchasing some amazing Payware aircraft and Scenery Add Ons for my new PC and I must admit, it is becoming addictive. It was not until recently that I noticed that the forum dedicated to Payware was all the way at the bottom of the web site. In my opinion, I think that if I was a Payware designer, I would be a bit “turned off” to see that all my hard work and countless hours of work to the Flight Sim Community have wound up at the bottom of a web site’s page. I think that Payware can surely stand up there with “Aircraft Wanted” and “Other Add-Ons Wanted”. Many people do not even know it is down there and if I was a designer and came to visit this wonderful site, I would be a bit insulted to see that the Payware Forum is lost way down there.

Yes, I know it has been discussed many times before. People are either for Payware or against it. As far as this post goes, that is not what this is about. It is out of respect for the many developers who commit to this type of hobby that I bring this to light.

I have noticed a big increase in positive posts in this forum and interesting conversations about this type of add-on. Just see here:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=paywaregen;action=display;...

Allot of us really do enjoy the option to purchase Payware products and openly discuss the positive and negative aspects of this category. I see that many different types of conversations are popping up. “Help needed” and “Reviews”. One of our own here has even become a “Payware Addict” as mentioned in his avatar! I won’t mention any name Savas! Even the Payware Screen-shot Forum is on fire and I see new people posting shots and even more, regulars who don't even speak of payware, posting a comment and asking a question about it. I think people have started to purchase Payware products just from reading and seeing the Payware posts!

Anyway Pete, how about getting out the crane, attach the rope and drag that Payware Forum up to where it belongs. It is about time we embrace this wonderful option to buy and give it a little more recognition along with some of the other popular topics here at Simviation.

Thanks for your time once again!!

Dave

Thing is - it's free promotion for them - & they do zero for us ... I only have the forum to keep the payware posts out of the other forums ...

In essence I can see your reasoning Pete, and don't think I am being negative, as I am not at all, but as a hobbyist in the simmers area, I have come to the realization that I love payware (yes Dave its true Grin ) for many reasons. The cost behind buying payware, is a low sum compared to my other hobbies. It might be free promotion for them in some respects, but it can also benefit Simviation in that like me I do what I can to promote Simviation at other sites and the 'family setting' that SimV seems to have compared to the rest of the forums I occasionally post on.

I personally will buy payware that I find interesting, or is a model of something that I have wanted where the freeware is either not available, or not as close to real as I had hoped. I will buy it regardless of its promotion to a website, however if the payware sites promoted here, I would be even more inclined to purchase their product as it would benefit SimV even more than just people that post in the Payware forums can do.

The way I see it, is different than a business point of view. I know I do not run SimV so its not my call, but payware, freeware, its all the same with the exception of a few dollars involved out of my pocket. Some is good and some isn't on both sides of the coin.

And lastly choosing not to move the Payware forum up a little, is your decision, and I respect you for that, just wish it would move up a smidgeon since I tend to spend most of my time in the payware and payware screenshots forum Wink

Respectfully,

Stephen

Hey Mark, did you steal the cheese again. Templeton the Rat said he thought he saw you in the shadows stumbling around down there. I just went looking for you and saw a few empty beer bottles!  Roll Eyes
