I'm still on small single engine prop planes, and whenever I take off or land, I rarely can end up in the middle of the runway.  Is this normal with Single-engine prop planes (I'm constantly adjusting the rudder while I do this)

Just wondering...

All propeller aircraft have what I call prop effect since it turns clockwise it will pull the air craft to the right. The faster it turns the harder it pulls. Twin engine propeller aircraft have to sync the two engines so that the props come down at the same time other wise the vibration would shake the plane apart. Kind of like a wash machine out of balance Grin

Cross winds will also cause your plane to move right or left. Check your weather settings.

is best to ease the throttle not slam it all on at once otherwise you will be pulled to the right and spend the rest of the runway correcting yourself

Yep prop effect along with crosswinds can both cause a plane to veer to the side..And like Daz says. best thing to do is EASE into the throttle and make small corrections as the plane moves down the runway  Grin

I thought that was what I had been doing (easing the throttle, I'll try it slower)

What about landing (or is that really par for the course)?

Here are some images of a takeoff and landing.  How's this (too off-center, or is this par for the course?)
