For carrier aircraft buffs, heres some photos from the Naval Aviation History Center, Washington, DC, of the only P51D ever modified for carrier operations, Navy P51D BuNo 57987 (ex-USAAF 44-14017). Photos show the Mustang landing aboard the USS Shangri-La during flight tests in November 1944. A Navy PBJ (B25 Mitchell) was also modified for carrier landings by the Navy, and made similar landings that same day. For additional details see my post in the History forum.

Interesting, I never knew there was a P-51 converted for carrier ops. And look at the mini contrail coming off of the prop, has anyone here ever seen one of those prop contrails? I did at an airshow once 8)

&&&&That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they kicked the pants off of my P4 3.4!

Very interesting... Yeah, I've seen a bunch of those "contrails" from videos my grampa took during Korea... Of course, the F-86's and F-84's didn't have 'em, but the F-51's did...
