If you are going to play online............

CFS2 is fast constant action and takes a long time to master the finer points of dogfighting. Will play on most machines.

IL2 FB with AEP + Patches (!!!) is a very good simulation, can be frustrating in multiplayer due to lag and finding the enemy, but also rewarding in difficult dogfights. You need top hardware.

Believe it or not, the cable guys are asking me to host on dialup from Australia, they are getting better connections........ too wierd!

I like IL-2... just looks/feels better to me.  I do like the ability to add planes to CFS though, instead of waiting on Oleg to add them to IL-2.
