No, you don't. We normally use that for FS2002, FS9 etc... M$ Paint will do fine, or paint shop pro, if you have it.

Depends if they have BMP textures. If they're 3rd party aircraft with textures in the .xAF format you will find MW's ConvR8 very handy. It's useful even for BMP textures. Wink

Point of information - even with *.*af files, for CFS1, SOME textures maybe straight bitmaps.  The way to find out is to rename the *.*af texture as *.bmp: if it opens normally, it's a bitmap, no conversion needed.

What happened is that with CFS1, you could use regular bitmaps, but since the models were still being built with FSFS or AF99, which used the raw *.*af format, the model could be set up as a bitmap, but had to maintain the model's naming convention.  you COULD go into the mdl with a hext editor and rename the names to *.bmp (changing each to a unique name, of course), and Chuck Dome made a utility to do that, but in the end, most bitmap conversions/repaints ended up retaining the original names.

Thanx guys much appreciated.

Just one more question:

I have a B52g and recently re-painted it Grey/Black,
the problem is, I've gone through all the texture files and other possibilities but some parts are still showing up green in the game. Sad

Is there anything I can do or any advice you guys have.

All comments will be helpful.

Thanx. Carl

It could be that the green parts were never textured!

Aaaaaaaaahh.

Is there any way a div like me can add a texture to it?

Please keep it simple - I'm VERY slow.

Much appreciated.

You can't add textures but you might be able to change the colour of the parts. Look for a utility named Polyfix. It should be in the SimV Utilities or Misc sections. It's quite easy to use when you get the hang of it. A tad time-consuming & it won't work on complex models.
