As part of maintenance & as we are soon moving to a new server - I am intending to delete all posts more than 1 year old.

Any reasons not to do this?

Otherwise I will hit the delete button tomorrow (Wednesday)

Sounds reasonable to me Pete, another thought is deleting all accounts that haven't been touched for over a year. That should free up some space...

The worrying thing is that some round here won't have there post count affected at all. Andrew would still have about 4000 posts.

I say go for it. Some of us could make residents again.

Many of the Posts contain such literary gems as ..

"great photo's mate..."

"I wish I had been there"

or a whole series recently about Ozzie's sister in law.

We are not talking about burning libraries of historic treasure or the Dead Sea Scrolls....

Go for it Pete - create space, open up new vistas for enlightenment, room for the man in the aviation street to share his wisdom.

In my opinion, you are doing God's work.

Stay well, and may the force be with you...

Yeah i think you should Pete.
People with high post counts such as Andrew would still be the highest anyway. He only joined about 2 yrs ago, unless I'm wrong.
Free up space, save money, make it as cost efficient as possible. Who are the selfish prigs that are demanding otherwise I say? Would they like yr yearly bill? I wouldn't anyway.
Btw, since this was brought up last week, and is an 'old' topic, I don't think Andrew noticed it. Now I've brought it back up again he might. Grin

Well for now I've been persuaded to leave things as they are .... there may indeed be a way to archive the old posts in a compressed format.

There are many valuable postings that go way back & can be found in a search - example Aircraft Design - &  wiping old stuff may be a little like ripping out the first half of a book ...

As always on this site - the feedback is the key to what happens here.

You could create a new section on the main site, and copy all posts there before deleting. This will save space, and if someone searches they can still get the information.

My suggestion is that rather than delete what could be valuable information to someone, limit the posts in Photos and screenshots to one or two months tops.  I think that would free up a bunch.

Paul - just get ACDSee - or Irfanview - there is no reason any 800pixel wide image needs to be over 40/80K. You just aren't compressing them (enough)..

It's the lack of care that gets images deleted. Period  8)

Hi Pete...!
All my photo's/screenshots are sized using Irfanview, (max 800X 600, 100k or less).
My trouble was putting too many of them in one particular Thread...!
Hagar suggested splitting them in seperate Threads, eg:
Fozdins1...(500k max in total)
Fozdins2...(500k max in total)
etc...!
I think that will cure the problem.
(The maxinium size of all the pictures combined in any one particular Thread is not supposed to exceed 500k)....?

Cheers all...!

Paul.
