Why didn't microsoft include the garmin 500 display in the Vcockpit panel view?  Call me nitpicky but I find it just slightly less than realistic if I am flying with the Vcockpit and pan over the panel and see no garmin there but can call it with shift+3.  If some freeware guys modified the default panels to put the gps500 in the virtual panel view I would download them all.

I dont think you can alter the VC, as it is in the *.mdl. However, a few hrs on CFGEdit and it could be done!

You can't alter the physical appearance of the VC (location of panels, gear lever, etc) but you can change any gauge on the panels the same as you would any gauge in the actual panel.  Using CFGEdit won't help much here, as I don't think it will display the VC sections of the panel.cfg, but you could always try!

CfgEdit will display the DVC. I use it to position the gauges on my own designs.

I'm not sure the GPS gauge would work on a DVC. You would have to try it to find out. This should not be difficult to do by editing Panel.cfg in Notepad. Even if it does display I doubt the clickable functions would work or be big enough to see.

How do you edit a DVC? What I was thinking of was to take a screenie of the VC and use it as a background bmp. Then he could use whatever gauges he wanted! Can you explain the simicons thing to me Doug? I want to use then in my latest creation!  Wink

What I would do to check it out is to replace one of the existing gauges in the DVC entries with the GPS gauge. This can be easily done in Notepad.

I'm really rusty on all this stuff & my memory ain't what it used to be. Roll Eyes The simicons gauges control various pop-up windows according to their ident= names. The best way to figure it out is to use a default Panel.cfg as an example. Again, this is easier in Notepad as CfgEdit can't read XML gauges.

Hi all. Just popped in. The jolly old simicons again. My advice is 'Don't Use Em' as you can't edit them with CFGEdit. But if you look inside the default Cessna208. gau, the Mooney_Bravo.gau and others they have toggles called Avionics_Display_Toggle etc which you can see, are editable for size and you can place just where you want!

Nice Wink

I have tried with cfgedit to modify dvc's before with no succuss.  Then I got too busy with life to keep working at it.  If memory serves me right, the DVC is sometimes split up into several sections and some areas of these sections overlap.  It had occured to me that the area I was trying to add a gauge was one of those overlapped areas and I didn't add the gauge in each section that had the overlapped area which I deduce may have prevented it from rendering in the sim.  Incidently, the one I was doing was adding Civa Delco INS to the flight1 DC-9.  I was going to place the gauge in the pedestal area where alll those dummy knobs are. Project is on-going.

I just thought of a great idea.  I will attempt to replace the stock bendix king radio stack with either the garmin 540 look alike from Ick Slack or possibly I will borrow the watered down garmin unit from my Cessna 421.  I know either of those gauges will render in a dvc though probably not be functional.  It will be stricktly an appearance upgrade.

The GPS guage will work in the DVC, and it is functional.

However - I think MS left it out because the update rate on that gauge is horrendously slow.

Does anyone know if Abacus' panel editor software (cfg edit upgraded) has been made fs9 compatible? I know under fs2002 it had been upgraded to work with xml files.

FS Panel Studio is the commercial version of CfgEdit. http://www.fspanelstudio.com/ It's advertised as being FS9-compatible although no update should be necessary. FS9 panels are basically no different to those for FS2002.

The Abacus Custom Panel Designer is a completely different product.
