Help please

installed a couple of campaigns and the advance info screen gives false info re COUNTRY and location.

1. country shows USA but should be France
2. country shows unknown  but should be Vichy France

3. location shows European Theatre but should be France
4. location is not present at all but the campaign takes place in the middle east.

all help and advise is most welcome to over come the problems and to add to the over all level of realism.

Additional a couple of airfields cause problems. when i want to look at the advance info screen i crash to the desktop..How can i succesfully substitute these airfields so that the advanced info screen is available.

help is appriciated.

the campaigns in question are the Vichy france campaign and the Bataille de Somme v2

Michael. I haven't tried these campaigns. I supect you didn't edit Airbases.dat correctly. There can be problems when installing more than one campaign especially if they're by different authors. If a replacement Airbases.dat is included with the campaign I would suggest backing up the original & using that. Then change it for the other campaign & so on. I forget the details now but it's also possible to have too many entries in Airbases.dat.

Here's the instructions I posted on the Fox Four FAQ page for our Korean campaigns over 1 year ago. This is an example only but the same advice applies.

Quote:
IMPORTANT #2
************
In order to use the Advanced Information feature of CFS2 with this campaign, you must:

1. (Strongly Suggested) Replace your existing CFS2\INFO\airbases.dat file with the one provided in this package. You may backup your original, if you wish for reuse later. This is only needed, if it is customized.
If yours is a stock file, you can use our replacement permanently because it contains the stock CFS2 airfields plus the Korean airfields. Simply PASTE it into your CFS2\INFO folder and it will overwrite the existing file.

OR

2. (Less Reliable Option) Add the Korean airfield entries listed below to the airbases.dat file in your CFS2\INFO folder.
To do so, open your airbases.dat file in Notepad. Make a space between the last runway entry and the small rectangle symbol (make sure not to delete this symbol).
Copy/Paste the following new entries into the the space you have made. You MUST then renumber the [runway.xxx] and id=xxxx fields in each these new entries sequentially, beginning with the corresponding numbers in your last original entry plus 1.
Example: If your last original entry was [runway.138] with id=8060, then you would begin renumbering the new entries with [runway.139] and id=8061

Understand that there CANNOT be any duplicate runway or id numbers in your airbases.dat file:

PS. It's also possible you don't have the correct Country.cfg file installed. Most experienced mission designers use the M$ approved version here. http://www.microsoft.com/games/combatfs2/articles_SDK_countryfile.asp
There might be a different version included with the campaign.

Campaigns are probably the most difficult addons to install. The important thing is to read the instructions carefully.

thanks for the answers. one of the problems is fixed. country now shows up correctly as france. the other problem re airbase file seems not to work. is it not true that when you assign new id  and runway numbers ( in sequence osf course) than you also have to edit the runway # in the mission files?

do you not also have to update the opareas file in the INFO folder to reflect different parts of the world for the correct location to show up. One of the campaign runs in the Middle East but the location does not reflect that. i  still get country as USA when it should be france  any suggestions

Not without downloading the campaign, reading the instructions & trying it myself. The Vichy campaign is something like 16 Mb which I'm not prepared to download on my 56k dial-up. I can't find the other one you mention.

I could be wrong but think the opareas.dat entries are used mainly in the MB. These would only be required for new areas used in the campaign. European Theater is already included in the default file. It's possible the countries haven't been assigned correctly for various reasons. We used US & Japan for the Korean campaigns posted so far.* It's also possible that the campaigns are not set up to include the Advanced Info feature.

*PS. Our Korean campaigns so far are played from the US (Allied) side. Changing nationalities & allegiances would involve creating/installing new splash screen sets & updating Country.cfg. This would make the whole thing even more complicated to install.
