One thing that I'd love to see in the next flight sim would be much better, believable night conditions.  At night, the only thing that you can see are lights shining everywhere, you don't see things like the whole airport at night, you can't see the tarmac or white lines on the runway, all you see are lights.  At the moment that's what the night is like, which I find annoying, you shouldn't be able to see anything on the ground, just the lights glowing, you can only see something at night with the landing or taxi lights (which I'd love to see improved a hell of a lot!  The current lights look very unreal, all they do is whiten the ground that it shines on, the grass looks light grey when it should be green, instead of showing that section of ground in colour, as if it were day.  Train simulator has perfected that, almost, and train sim is 2 years older than FS2004, and you'd naturally expect much better from FS2004).  When you're moving around the airport you should just be able to see lights where the taxiways or runway or apron should be, and you shouldn't be able to see everything.  Does anyone know what I mean?  In oher words, if the airport lights were switched off, you'd just see pitch black, at the moment you don't even need lights cause you can see the whole runway and taxiway and apron anyway!  I know for a fact that these things could be done without a lot of complication.  Also at night you don't see green trees!  It's dark, all you see are black trees, unless you shine your light over them (unlikely Grin).  Same applies to all the autogen.  And like I said, everything is black, unless lit up, and all you see are lights.  Please, if I've mentioned some things more than once forgive me, but I'm not going throught the whole bloody thing twice!!!

Greg

P.S.  Since we are all the customers, M$ should really be looking in all these forums for suggestions.  If they're not, they are really being self centred.  Also if they deliberately do not look in these forums they should be continuesly scanning the sim for errors and things that can be improved on, and every sim should be 3 times better than the one before!!!  I recon they should open up a forum for FS2004 on the main website, otherwise they're never gonna see just how many things are wrong in their sim!  It takes hundreds, even thousands of people to find errors and things, imagine how many errors they'd find by themselves if one guys flies now and then!  I also don't know how they didn't pick up on so many errors!  Such as grass showing throught the runways at so many airports!  As well as at lots of airports where the runway is bearly connected to the taxiways, where there's like a grass line between them!

There's one more thing that I wonder is happening to anyone else, whenever I am on a bitumus runway, the aircraft bounces up and down continuesly the whole way down the runway, and as I get faster the bouncing gets more crazy!  It's bloody annoying cause when I'm in a plane with flexing wing the wings jolt up and down all the way!  On other runways, it's nice and flat and nothing happens, like it's meant to be.

If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough.

Yeah, I do kinda see where your going...the other night I took the default bell around the island that I live on and found an open clearing in the middle of a forest. I noticed that I could see the trees and everything else as good as if there was a full moon but there was no moon out. It would be nice of Microsoft to make the night time darker. It would also be neat if the trees swayed in the wind, too.  Grin

Night darkness will always depend on more than it just being night time. The moon, stars and other things all make a difference. With a full moon and no clouds you will be suprised at how bright it can be outside sometimes at night. Bit I agree with you on the landing lights. They could be far better.

There is a great night textures add-on here at SimV that puts more lights on the streets at night....it makes nighttime VFR easier.  (Not that I do it, but it's a great add on nonetheless.)

There's also a package that enhances the beacons on radio towers at night.  Check 'em out!

I've recently not bothered turning on the taxi lights or the landing lights. It seems considerably more realistic when I'm able to see the tarmac.....!

I installed both of those last night.  Very glad I did.  They do make night flying much more realistic.  Took off from KJFK and flew to KBOS (one of my reguilar routes).  Looked like doing that for real.

Yeah I agree.
I have a big problem when I use my taxi lights, in that I cant see the taxiway lines. This is on the taxiways that connect gates and stands, not the lit ones.

To be honest I bet Microsoft already has a huge 'to do' list for FS, but sometimes I wonder where do they get the input from? They should set-up an official forum.

I'm sure they do have some consortium of sorts, but it's most likely not a public forum.

The reason for this is because the folks at M$ are the "experts" on what can be reasonably accomplished and what can't be.

If they opened it up to public debate, you'd have people that want a stock hangar of 150 planes, photorealistic scenery and the ever popular "bridge by my house."

They won't.  Making an exact replica of the earth with each and every landmark photorealistically installed would be an amazing installation, and it wouldn't run on anything.

If you want it to be THAT real, your best bet is to get flight instruction at your local airport. Wink
