SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800 XT 256 MB AGP GRAPHICS CARD FOR PC      286.99

What is going to hold back it's performance? and what is there that I can 'skimp' on price wise, such as cutting down to 512MB ram? £915.85 is a little stiff for a 14y/o...

You need a case and PSU.

Also you could save yourself £130 and a get a 9800pro instead, the difference between the two is minimal.  Also buying a high-end GFX card is not wise right now.  Wait until around the end of next month when the new ATI cards are out and the 9800pro will be even more cheaper.

Look at AMD you can get a good 64-bit processor for the price of a Intel P4 3.06.

Also home building it will cost less than buying a system already built.

My system:Intel Q6600@3.6GHz, Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2-6400 (4-4-4-12-1T) , Sapphire 7850 OC 2BG 920/5000, X-Fi Fatality, Corsair AX 750, 7 Pro x64

Thats got a 350Watt PSU, case and mouse / keyboard in it.

From UKparts.com the SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800 PRO AGP GRAPHICS CARD FOR PC is £66.99, making the price £795.85.... Sounds better.. Why will the ATI cards make other cheaper? And would you reccomend 64bit instead of P4?

The new ATi cards will become cheaper when the new X800xt comes out either at the end of this month or beginning of next month.  A 64-bit processor will allow you to run new software that is using the 64-bit technology, like the new WindowsXP-64 and the new games lined up.

What software are you looking at, then i could deem whether it will be significantly cheaper building your computer.

I was intending to run Win XP, CFS1, FS2002 Pro and later Fs9 (or 10!!), along with MS office 2000.
