Hi Guys,

I got a copy of AFCAD, and started playing around with my local airport (KACY). I added parking, gates and a new, bigger runway. After I saved it, I gave it a try and none of the new stuff showed up. I read thru the AFCAD FAQ's and found that it'll add the invisible elements of things, but NOT the scenery itself.

Well, a nice long, wide runway won't help much if you can't see it. SO, how do I now add scenery to make my changes visible? Please write any answers in the "For Dummies" format. In other words, like you're talking to someone who has no idea if what she's doing.   Grin

    Thanks guys. Take Care.
Sue

I will go out on a limb here Cry
I beleive you will need a program for that there are several out there Airport for windows is one and FSDS I think thats the name is another. But with these you can alter or build from scratch a airport. You might need to LATITUDE and LONGITUDE though. Grin

I hope I got that right.

Getting there Gary Wink

Need to know which FS version we are dealing with.

If it's FS02, AFCAD can do nothing to change the visual appearance of the scenery. You'll need to get into scenery design using either Airport for Windows or FSSC (Flight Simulator Scenery Creator). You can use AFCAD (v1) to create (invisible) parking spaces, gates and taxiways for your AI aircraft to use. And you won't be able to modify navaids with AFCAD either.

If it's FS04, AFCAD (v2) can add/modify runways, aprons and taxiways with lights and markings as well as create (invisible) parking spaces and gates and can also add/modify navaids (except markers). It can't change the appearance of any of the other airport infrastructure - again, for that you'll need Airport or FSSC.

Brief answer but hope it helps.

Sue I had the same problem untill I found out how to use the flattening and exclude switchs. After entering the flattening switch, my runways and taxiways showed up in FS9.

You put the switch in your scenery.cfg file located in the main FS9 folder. You will need you elevation in MSL and four sets of Lat/Long., that for a squiare around your airport.

The easiest why I found to do that was to pick a point in the northwest area in AFCAD with your cursor then read the Lat/Long at the bottom of you screen, ie N36* 00, W119* 00, this will be the #1 set. Then pick a point in the NE area on the same Lat, N36* 00, W118* 70, this will be the 2nd set. proceed down and pick the 3rd set then back to the west for the 4th set.

You will need to open up Scenery.cfg with notepad the scrool to the bottom there you will see the last intry for an area ie [AREA XXX], if you haven't add any other scenery since saving your AFCAD this should be the intry you need to put the flattening switch in at the bottom of it.

Hope this helps, I you like you can e-mail me and I will try to help you ferther.

Steve. I think Sue is using FS2002. I can't improve on RollerBall's advice. This guy knows what he's talking about.

Please don't apologise Steve. You're not stepping on anyone's toes. Far from it. I've lost touch with this stuff & you know far more about it than I do. The boot's on the other foot & I'm learning from you guys now. Mind you, this has always been the case. Roll Eyes

I happened to spot Sue in the FS2002 forum several times & assumed that's the sim she's using. I could be wrong about that. Wink

PS. Confusing these days ain't it. ??? LOL Cheesy
