It's starting to become obvious this thing is going to be huge.
Rolls Royce Trent 900 Fan blades.
A380-800 Main body landing gear. Nose gear in the background.
Rolls Royce Trent 900 Engine. Almost 100,000lbs of thrust each, and this thing will have four!

I have heard though that the engines will only be rated to 79,000lbs of thrust each

That's right yes. The engines are "derated" in much the same way as the CFM56-5s and V2500 on the A320 series are.
I expect it'll be handy to have that extra "umph" in there when they expand the model range.

airliners.net has a load of them.
richie the first a380 should fly in the last few months of the year. absolute earliest august, more likely october. Remember though people it will be doing hours of ground tests before it even get in the air so we shall more than likely see it as soon as it starts those

Yeah that green engine hanging from the two cranes is very large. I dont see why they put window stickers on the engine though.

They showed the first wing being shipped out of the plant in Wales on the UK news yesterday .... 49m (165ft) long. However there could be some delays in getting any more out as theres a dispute about who is going to keep the river dreged. ???
