Hi!
.....I'm an italian pilot, and I own all licenses untill Airline pilot (ATPL).....
I have to be honest with you, sadly to become a pilot is very, very, very expansive!
For all my licenses (commercial, atpl, mcc) and something about 750 flight hours,i've spent about 80.000 EURO!Or more!
And I'm still looking for a job!!!
Don't trhust who tell you taht it's easy and cheap!COMPLETELY WRONG!!
It's true that the comercial licese allows you to work.....but especially in theese last years it's terribly difficult to get a job just with the license and 250 flight hours!Becouse the pilots market it's fully busy, and there are too many pilots with a lot of experiences around!!
Sadly,that's it!
Cheers!

Thank God for let me fly!

hi Lux, thank you for your input, and i am aware of the costs involved, thats why i am waiting to get to the US, where it at least cuts in half the cost from what it would cost here.
Thank you again and best of luck finding the job you want

Craig...do you want FAA or JAA licences?
Because there are not that many schools in USA that are JAA certified (even tho they SAY they are!!!)
It's cheaper in the US, yes...but most schools offer FAA certificates which are sadly not valid in the UK (they are a part of the JAA)

So if you want to fly in Europe, target a european school, it's the best, if that's not important, then go to America Smiley

i am planning on moving to america after college. 4 years of college, plus if what i have been told is correct a possible science job after it, for 2 years that would give me 6 years of continous residence thus making me elligable for citizenship

Unless during that time you meet this awesome American hottie chick and marry her, then you'd be a citizen even sooner.  lol

Hi!
Where are you from?
Becouse that I could suggest you is to go in Australia!!
I've been there untill a couple of weeks ago,ang i can guarantee you that there it's not too much expansive to begin.....(still reminding that it wont be too cheap....!).
And now the australian dollar is folling down!So it could be a good time for you to go there!!!
And you'll not go to fly in deserts!!
Just look at this site  www.volareinaustralia.com
I've been there, and if you are really intentioned  to try,it could be a good chance!
However,good luck!!
Cheers!

thanks for the link. I am well aware of that in the end. I am willing to work for it. As i have said in the past i will be getting a degree in something totally unrelated to a specific aviation field. It will give me a chance of a job if things do go bad

YEA! That is good!
I just wanted you to bear that in mind!
As long as you have a clear understanding of the situation and while striving to reach your goals, keep focused on the big picture and you will succeed!

I wish you lots of luck and most importantly happy flying!  Wink
