After figuring out what I am going to do about a power source I found that I am still faced with numerous choices about how to perfectly upgrade my system.  At the moment i have a FX 5200 and I am trying to figure out the perfect card to upgrade to.  I originally had my heart set on the FX 5900 ultra but have since changed my mind and am now thinking about a ATI 9800 pro (its more in my price range and, from the looks of it makes FS 2004 run a bit faster).  But here is where my problem comes in.  I have heard that the switch from Nvidia drivers to ATI drivers is a nasty one.  I really don't want to reinstall my operating system and jump through other hoops to make my card work......I just want results!  If there is anybody out there that could either confirm the rumors or (hopefully) tell me they are all old wives tales it would sure help me get some sleep! Smiley  Any suggestions would be great!!   Thanks!

Hello.i just switched from a Nvidia geforce 5200fx to a ATI 9600xt.you just want to uninstall the Nvidia driver before you put the next card in.and there may be a driver file left on C:/ drive just deleat it after you uninstall the driver.but who ever said switching drivers and diffrent brands of video cards is a problem has fell and bumped there head to many times. fx5200 to 9600xt is a big jump, you will love it.
Also you get Half life 2 vouchers with 9600xt and upwards with most cards in the Radeon range.  A top card with an excellent £40 game for free with it, you can't go wrong.

I was with an 'Xpert vision' FX5600 on my old computer, screen scrambles and crashes the whole time - that kind of put me off NVIDIA, AMD and Mercury!. If you are thinking of the 9800 pro, I have the 9800XT which I am extremely pleased with. I have heard the difference between the XT and Pro is laughable so I would recommend that one. (but don't listen to me as I know nothing!).

The switch to the different drivers hasn't bothered me particularly, but then I didn't install it myself and no previos NVIDIA card was on the system. I found that my usual technique of pressing any button that looked like it may do the job seemed to work alright.

pro to xt is about 20% increase.

For the price of a 9600pro you can get an 9600xt and HL2 for £20 more, which works out as £20 less than the 9600pro because the game is £40.  You don't get HL2 with 9600pro.

Aquamark
9800xt= 47k                  £326
9800pro= 44k                £155
9800= 39k                     £?
9600xt= 31k                  £118
9600pro= 26k                £96
9600= 20k                     £68
