Can anyone tell me what a "File_id.diz" file is? Is it one that FS needs to use a scenery add on? Can I remove it? It does not look like a system file. ???

Delete it if you wish. It's simply the file description for the webmaster. The same thing you see on the download page next to the files. You can open it in Notepad to check it out.

I think it is the one to load up the 3d scenary files, f-16
you should't erase it or your game'll crash
why do you want to erase it anyway? ???

DIZ is a format recognised by WinZip. Nothing to do with FS at all.
Deleting the File_id.diz will do no harm. They are such small files it's not worth worrying about.

FILE_ID.DIZ was originally created by Clark Development (creators of the" PCBoard" BBS software) for use with their PCBDescribe sysop utility, as a means for shareware authors to provide accurate descriptions of their products, and so that BBS callers could upload files without having to manually type in a file description. It has since been widely accepted as the "standard" file description source. (The extension of "DIZ" actually stands for "Description In Zip").

DELETE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those things are soooo annoying!
Like Hagar said, its not important to the person who downloads it- only the webmaster.

It
is
important to the person downloading a file...
the file_id.diz is what tells you what you are getting.
Of course, once you have it, you don't need it.

The average size of a File_id.diz is 30 Kb. This would hardly make any difference or affect anything at all. The ones I've seen aren't installed to the sim anyway. That's providing you install the files properly of course.

I personally like to keep description files, in case I need to know who the author was, or where to download it again
