Some easy questions about "propper" Spitfires
Griffon Spitfire Trivia
Amongst the production Griffon Spits, what was unique about the MkXII?
How many front line squadrons operated the MkXII and which ones?
By wars end, how many mark XII “Aces” were there?
What two types of German jet were shot down by Spitfire MkXIV’s?
On April 26 1945, two F Mk21’s achieved the types only notable combat success. What was it?
What major modification was introduced on the Mk21?
On February 5 1952, Flt. Lt. Ted Powers attained a new altitude record for a Spitfire.
1: How high?
2: What type of Spitfire?
Had it gone into production, what would have been the main roll of the F Mk23?
How many types of Spitfire served in the Korean War?
What was the main difference between the Seafire FR46 and the FR47?
Dead easy, have a go before Ozzy and Pippin get them all

I wouldn't demean myself to discuss non-Merlin Spits Roger, these Griffon things are pretenders....
But I can answer most of the Q.s but I'll let others have a shot first

Was it a pressurised cockpit for high altitude work?

Dunno

This would be easier if you told us if they had scored all their kills in MkXII Spits.
Quote:
What two types of German jet were shot down by Spitfire MkXIV’s?
Me262 and the Salamanda? Not sure about the second one. Would have to find out what jets were flying then.

They shot something down?
Quote:

Five or seven bladed prop?

1: How high?
2: What type of Spitfire?
1: 52,000feet (guess)
2: My first though was a Spitfire MkVII high altitude version.

Photo reconnisance.
Quote:

Seven. Maybe...
Quote:

Again, the prop? Either that or an upgraded engine.

Sorry Woody, none right
Apart from the 262. And MkXII ACE means scored five or more kills flying MK XII's.
Pippin got quite a few but I'll hang on a day or so before posting all the answers.

Mark thinks he's too good for us lowlifes that dare to bastardize our Spitfires by installing Griffin Engines and bubble canopies. Never mind the fact that a Mk 24 could fly circles around a Mk V or IX...
As for me, I just plain don't know crap about 'em...

Many times the public is dazzled by an airplane - such as the Mustang, or the Spitfire, with the Mks I-II-V-IX being the "poster-children of the type.
However, once one starts learning and researching the history of a model, you learn interesting facts and features and you further appreciate the design genius of the basic model, and the extents to which the design could be stretched.
In the case of the Spitfire "legacy" one could say that with K5054, the prototype, was developed to the "Super Spitfire" - the F.22/24 - and the Spiteful. To a point, the jet-powered Supermarine Attacker was an "extension" of the Spiteful.
"Trivia" questons, such as these, force one to do a little research, look up in one's resources, and refresh one's memory.

Okay well just to prove that inspite of my bias I do know a little about these pretenders-to-the-crown, the MkXII was the only Griffon engined Spit with a single stage supercharger!
41 Sqn were the first to receive Mk XIIs, then 91 Sqn, a few turned up with 595 Sqn as well.
The major modification to the 21 was her wings. A new design, which had to accomodate longer U/C as well as bigger (5% if I remember correctly) ailerons, based on the piano hinge system and needing weight-tabs to balance them. This was the first ever change in wing shape for a Spit. And because of the taller U/C I believe she was the first to take the bigger (11ft diameter?) 5 bladed rotol prop. Did the XII have the extended wingtips as well Roger?
As for the ace, well that is EASY!!! Ray Harries was the only pilot to become an ace on the Spitfire XII with 9 kills, and was the top-scoring Welsh ace with 16.5 kills total.
